During a chase to save a psychic radio squid, Hailey recounts the fateful New Year’s Day where a professor from the future instructed her to complete every item on her “to-do list” in order to save the future, while also struggling with one awkward item on the list during a quest to ride every county fair ride.
Tropes:
- Agony of the Feet: Hailey drops the mallet from the Test Your Strength game on her foot.
- But Thou Must!: When Hailey tries to get out of kissing Scott by erasing that item off of the list, it creates a quick time paradox that not only temporarily turns the world outside into the prophesied future hellscape, but according to Beta, gives the Chaos Bots an opening to travel back in time to stop her from completing the list. Needless to say, it’s made very clear that skipping or erasing any of the items on the list is not an option.
- How We Got Here: The episode begins with Hailey and Scott running away with the squid while being chased by its handlers. In voiceover, Hailey then recounts how she got into this situation.
- Jealous Romantic Witness: After giving Kristine her blessing to date Scott, Hailey lays witness to them already get comfortable starting to date each other, starting with holding hands and Kristine introducing him as her boyfriend on her social media feed. This leads to her giving herself a Face Palm and taking her anger out on some Chaos Bots.
- Match Cut: From Hailey about to throw up on Scott, to a shot of a soda machine dispensing green soda.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Near the start of the episode Beta tells Hailey that she'd have a 94% success probability if she kissed Scott now. However, by giving Kristine her blessing to ask Scott out, Beta tells her the probability has dropped to 0.2%.
- Never Win the Lottery: Wanting to give Hailey an easy start to her mission, the Professor attempts to say the winning lottery jackpot numbers (which are shown), but ends up getting sucked back to the future.
- The Tape Knew You Would Say That: Hailey is given a prerecorded message from her future self, who's aware of how she would react to the situation.
- "Test Your Strength" Game: Hailey uses one to destroy a chaos bot.
- Tunnel of Love: The last ride Hailey and Scott ride is a tunnel of love which Hailey is hesitant to ride. Hailey comfortably gets used to it, until she vomits on Scott.
- Vomit Discretion Shot:
- Kristine literally tips her hat to Hailey for saving her and others from a runaway Tilt-a-Whirl, only for a small boy to throw up in said hat.
- Later, during their ride in the Tunnel of Love, Hailey's nervousness on the ride caused her to vomit on Scott.
