"Get Whale Soon" is the fifth episode of the second (internet) season of Happy Tree Friends.
Russell is traveling on his boat until he gets swallowed by a whale. Upon lighting his match, he sees that the inside is full of random junk as well as Lumpy in his car. They are at first discouraged that they are both stuck, but Russell then gets an idea. They first try to light a bundle of sticks to create smoke, but Russell only has one match left. When he manages to get the match lit, Lumpy ends up sneezing, wasting it. The next plan involves Lumpy lifting Russell up so that the latter can pull the whale's uvula, but this results in it vomiting all over the duo. They are now disheartened and think that they are out of ideas, until they notice light shining from the above — the whale's blowhole. Russell grabs his harpoon and throws it upwards, but it ends up falling onto Lumpy, killing him. With that failure, Russell finally snaps and begins slashing the whale's insides with his hook. Feeling bothered, the whale blows Russell out from the blowhole. The sea otter, upon noticing that he's out, cheers gleefully. However, he ends up falling straight on a ship's mast, impaling his head. The ship is then eaten by the whale.
"Get Whale Soon" contains examples of:
- Accidental Murder: Russell's harpoon ends up landing on Lumpy instead of reaching the whale's blowhole.
- Ambidextrous Sprite: Russell's Hook Hand placement and Lumpy's antlers.
- Artistic License – Biology: The whale's blowhole is not connected to its stomach.
- Blown Upward by a Blowhole: Happens to Russell when he starts slashing at the whale's insides.
- By the Lights of Their Eyes: Whenever the whale's insides plunge into darkness.
- Continuity Nod: Lumpy wears the same getup as in "Treasure Those Idol Moments", though the car he is driving has a different design (though the color scheme is mostly similar).
- Cruel and Unusual Death:
- Lumpy's head is hit by Russell's harpoon.
- Russell's head is impaled on a ship's mast.
- Downer Ending: Lumpy gets accidentally killed and, while Russell manages to get blown out, he gets impaled on a ship mast before getting eaten by the whale again.
- "Everybody Dies" Ending: Neither Russell or Lumpy survive this episode.
- Eye Scream: The ship mast impales Russell through his eye.
- Freak Out: Russell after failing his attempt to escape for the third time and accidentally killing Lumpy.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: There are many random items that can be seen inside the whale. This includes The Cursed Idol.
- Getting Eaten Is Harmless: Russell and Lumpy get swallowed by a whale, with the former ending up in this situation twice. However, judging the random junk that litters the whale's stomach and the duo's lack of urgency in getting out, nothing in there is getting digested anytime soon. There's even a colony of bats living inside it, as if it were a cave.
- Hard-to-Light Fire: Russell and Lumpy attempt to light a fire to get out of the whale they're trapped in (presumably by making it sneeze like in Pinocchio), but Russell finds that he only has one match left. After some difficulty, he manages to light it... only for Lumpy to sneeze and put it out.
- Hope Spot: Russell seems to be free upon being blown out from the whale's blowhole. He then suddenly gets impaled on a ship's mast. Said ship gets eaten by the same whale.
- Ill-Timed Sneeze: Right after Russell manages to light his one match and prepares to light the fire that will allow them to escape from the whale he and Lumpy are trapped in, Lumpy sneezes, putting out the match.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: The duo's deaths involve impalement.
- Laughing Mad: Russell during his Sanity Slippage.
- Oh, Crap!: Russell's reaction when Lumpy sneezes on his lit match.
- Pun-Based Title: "Get well soon."
- Ribcage Stomach: While it doesn't show the bones directly, the contours of the whale's ribcage can be seen under the flesh in the "ceiling" of the whale's stomach.
- Sanity Slippage: The only time Russell acts kind of Fliqpy-like.
Word of God stated that this is intended to be unique to this episode only. - Shout-Out:
- At the beginning of the episode, Russell hums the song "Sailing, Sailing".
- This episode contains a few Pinocchio references. Aside from the obvious, being Swallowed Whole by a whale, there is a lookalike of the puppet itself inside, as well as the duo's first attempt of escaping involving lighting a bundle of sticks, presumably to generate smoke so the whale will end up sneezing.
- They Killed Kenny Again: Lumpy and Russell die.
- Updated Re-release: One of the early episodes to be part of the "Classics Remastered" releases, which rerelease early HTF episodes in HD.
- Uvula Escape Route: Russell attempts to escape the whale by piercing its uvula with his hook, to no avail.
- Vomit Indiscretion Shot: The whale's vomit. Which covers both Russell and Lumpy.
