Jews and Chinese Food

Lorelai visits Rory at Yale to eat Friday night dinner in the cafeteria without "Eva and Adolf". Luke steals his boat back. Lorelai is making costumes for Fiddler on the Roof, and Luke was signed up to build the set. He eventually gets sick of being the only adult present, with the exception of Lulu and Carrie, and calls out Lorelai for sewing the costumes at home where her sewing machine is.

Tropes

  • Ambiguously Gay: The fourth lesbian Luke knows he's still waiting on confirmation from.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Lorelai calls her parents Eva and Adolf, but doesn't mean that her dad is Adolf.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": As is the tradition for this show, averted. In fact, Kirk is a much better actor in the school production of Fiddler on the Roof than in the shorts he directs.
  • Big Eater: Juliet is fascinated with Rory's ability to eat with great abandon. Juliet herself allegedly hasn't eaten since 1994.
  • Boarding School: Better than it sounds for kids whose parents keep rotating boyfriends/girlfriends.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Marty finally breaks his silence about his feelings for Rory.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When asked to find themselves a couple of phillips screwdrivers, two boys grab a hammer and a tape roll.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point:
    • Lulu thinks Luke's problem with being surrounded by only kids is that there's no adults to talk to.
    • Subverted with Kirk's milk cart. Luke wasn't necessarily going for making Kirk happy by kicking the wheel in, but he did.
  • Godwin's Law: Lorelai refers to her parents as "Eva and Adolf".
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Carrie, married with children, still has a thing for Luke and gives his recent ex Lorelai a look when she runs into her.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Doyle calls Rory out on her disrespectful behavior while taking his shoes off and putting his feet on her table.
    • Michel complains about being the only one painting stencils on the wall, but when the others offer to help, he says that they are antique family stencils that only he gets to touch.
  • Literal-Minded: The waitress at Weston's has a funny variant. She thinks "coffee coffee coffee" means "three coffees please".
  • Manchild: Kirk's tendency toward this becomes useful when the school play needs a competent actor who won't put allergens up his nose to play the lead.
  • Method Acting: In-universe, Kirk needs his milk cart to be hard to pull to accurately convey how hard it is for Tevje to pull it.
  • Abusive Parents: Carrie's youngest, Jenny, hides from her.
  • Running Gag: A kid in the school play won't stop telling people that his mother is a lesbian.
  • Shout-Out
  • Slip into Something More Comfortable: Feetsie pajamas are more comfortable than most clothes, according to Logan.
  • Too Much Information: Trust Paris to inform you about her sexual status with the guy standing in front of you.
  • Weight Woe: Juliet claims she hasn't eaten in ten years, and plans to get fat when she is married.
