Go To

The sixteenth episode of the fifth season of Garfield and Friends.

Post-Opening Sequence Line: "You'll like today's show, folks. No Binky, no Nermal, no Buddy Bears, just a lot of me!"

Supersonic Seymour

Jon hires a man named Seymour to encourage him to work faster.

A Mildly Mental Mix-Up

Wade goes to a therapist to cure his fears.

The Garfield Rap

A rap song is performed about some of Garfield's activities.

Supersonic Seymour contains examples of:

  • Motor Mouth: Seymour speaks very quickly, and thinks that taking any longer to speak would be wasting time. Jon picks up this trait once he starts moving as quickly as Seymour.
  • Script Swap: Seymour is about to read Jon a list of chores he needs to do, which Garfield replaces with his own list. It turns out to be instructions to humiliate Seymour, which Jon follows.

A Mildly Mental Mix-Up contains examples of:

  • Absurd Phobia: Among many other equally ridiculous fears, Wade is afraid of caraway seeds. Just the mention of one sends him into a panic.
  • Status Quo Is God: In the end, Wade's therapy does not actually help him; in fact, it gives him a fear of sofas.

The Garfield Rap contains examples of:

  • The Cameo: Nermal appears twice during the rap, but is not given any lines.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Zigzagged. The story-focused scenes are all in grayscale, except for Garfield, who has his regular colors. During the chorus, the clips shown vary from grayscale to full color.
  • Dreadful Musician: Implied. One scene in the rap focuses on Garfield playing the trumpet on a nearby fence, awakening the neighbors and angering them. It's not clear if the crowd gets angry because Garfield plays badly, because he's making noise at 3 AM, or even both.
  • Go-to-Sleep Ending: The final lines of the song, before the last chorus, are Garfield saying that the song's over and he's going to take a nap.
  • It Tastes Like Feet: Jon buys a new brand of cat food that Garfield does not enjoy.
Garfield: I thought the stuff that he brought home
    Tasted like ground-up styrofoam
  • Musical Episode: Most of the episode consists of the titular rap.
  • No Name Given: Surprisingly, it's Jon in this episode. As the rap is focused on Garfield, Jon appears twice and is referred to as "this guy I live with."
  • No, You: Jon gives Garfield cat food he doesn't like and says it's "really great." Garfield responds, "If it's so good, why don't you eat it?"
  • Opening Shout-Out: Inverted. Quite a few clips from this episode were used in the season 7 intro.
  • Produce Pelting: Garfield plays the trumpet at 3 AM, awakening people nearby. They get mad and throw stuff at him, including food, but Garfield doesn't mind since he gets "one heck of a breakfast meal."
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Garfield Rap is aired on "Meow TV," a parody of the network MTV.
    • One line of the song goes, "Some guys are trouble, some guys are fun/I'm Michael Jackson all rolled into one."
    • In a split-second clip, Garfield is seen sleeping on Snoopy's doghouse.
  • Title Drop: Twice. The song's name is mentioned when it airs on Meow TV, and the final lines of the song are "This is the end of The Garfield Rap/Now pass me a pillow, it's time for my nap."
  • Visual Pun: When Garfield says, "I'm Michael Jackson all rolled into one," the footage shown is him spinning around and transforming into a giant number 1.
