After VPC films a commercial for the Nightmare on 13th Haunted House, they learn that full payment for their job is stipulated by them going through the scariest floor of said haunted house without going mad. Micah isn't impressed by the theatrics and pulls of his own scare pranks with Ryan by dressing as a scary clown. However, Devin has bad memories from her own time in the circus. Meanwhile, Owen tries to protect himself by hiding among a group of tweens, and Zona becomes enamored by a guy with manly arms, a hockey mask, and chainsaw.
Tropes in this episode include:
- Accidental Rhyme:Devin: If I even get a whiff of peanuts or popcorn, my adrenaline kicks in, and I don't fight or flight. I smite. I ignite. I get an appetite.
Ryan: Did you just come up with those rhymes on the spot?
Devin: That's right. - Circus Episode: VPC has to survive a circus-themed haunted attraction.
- Dirty Coward: Owen tries sacrificing anyone around him when something scares him.
- Funny Background Event: After Micah mentions his penchant of signing his name to random things, demonstrated after lifting an oblivious Ryan's shirt to show his name already written across Ryan's stomach, Micah is seen writing his name on one of the walls in the background while Zona and Mr. Nightmare continue to argue over the contracts.
- Grammar Nazi: Mr. Nightmare keeps correcting Zona's grammar mistakes. When Zona corrects one of Mr. Nightmare's grammar mistakes, he says that she is Mr. Nightmare now.
- Hockey Mask and Chainsaw: Zona falls in love with a guy sporting these, but when she later finds out he's too young for her.
- Imagine Spot: Zona has a sudden fantasy when she encounters the chainsaw guy of them together sipping wine and reading contracts.
- Large Ham: Mr. Nightmare dramatically says almost all of his lines.
- Not So Above It All: Micah is convinced that the haunted house is just phony theatrics, but when it makes him confront his fear he freaks out like the rest of them.
- Offscreen Teleportation: Subverted. Micah chases the "topsy-turvy" clown and thinks said clown would disappear, but he easily finds the clown.
- Painful Rhyme: Mr. Nightmare: You went berzerkus on my circus? ... What a jerkus.
- Shout-Out: Trying to hide from Micah, the "topsy-turvy" clown says "He can't see you if you don't move."
- Take That!: Micah says that playing Meghan Trainor songs backwards makes them actually empowering to women.
- "What Do They Fear?" Episode: Most of the VPC crew encounter what they fear in the haunted house. Owen is pretty much a Nervous Wreck who gets acne from being scared, Devin has bad memories from the time when she was in the circus, and Micah is worried that he's fat.
