Recap / Frasier S 07 E 03 Radio Wars

Go To

Frasier butts heads with his radio station's new personalities, two obnoxious hucksters named Carlos and the Chicken.

Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: Frasier soon goes for the violent approach when dealing with his harassers, who have at that point separated on their own accord and thus there was no need to do anything, when the Chicken corrects his French pronunciation.
Frasier: That's it! No-one corrects my French pronunciation, you sonuva-!
  • Brick Joke: The part of Frasier withholding the medication of his neighbor in exchange for the camera film she used to take a picture of his butt for Carlos and the Chicken's contest becomes the subject of The Tag below.
  • Dumbass DJ: Carlos and the Chicken are a pair of shock jocks who like playing juvenile pranks on people on air.
  • Get Out!: Frasier demands Niles leave the apartment after some taunting following another C&C prank.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Just as Frasier is about to lecture the heck out of Carlos and the Chicken by calling them "a juvenile comic and his straight man," The Chicken unwittingly escalates things by calling Carlos his straight man when Carlos insists that he is the comic. One barbed argument between the hucksters later, Carlos just walks out, and Frasier was barely able to say a peep.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Martin isn’t all that sympathetic to Frasier’s plight, he is right about how Frasier and Niles acting like snobs does make them a target for bullying, as it isn’t considered socially acceptable.
  • Kick the Dog: Carlos and the Chicken's argument starts turning very personal when it turns out Carlos has been talking to their shared agent behind the Chicken's back.
  • No Sympathy:
    • Martin is a fan of Carlos and the Chicken before they start their prank war, so when he hears them prank Fras the first time, his only response is to taunt his son about being made to look like an idiot.
      Martin: They got you good!
    • Niles also taunts Frasier after another on-air pranking.
  • Schmuck Bait: The first prank on Frasier has Carlos and the Chicken pretending they're a pair of sculptors looking to make a statue of Fras, and want him to describe himself. It is slightly justified in their calling Frasier extremely early in the morning, but it also works because of his ego meaning he never stops to consider how phony it sounds.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After their argument, Carlos just bolts out of The Chicken's sight:
    Carlos: I'm going.
Chicken: Go ahead, be my guest.
Carlos: Great, because I don't need you and I don't need "Carlos and the Chicken."
Chicken: Oh, really? Well, best of luck, funny boy!
Carlos: Same to you, Dwayne! [exits]
  • Skewed Priorities: Frasier is determined to get in his pithy quotes against Carlos and the Chicken, while they're having a pretty vicious argument and then break-up with one another that most people would realize they need no help with. He even tries to get his quote in after Carlos has stormed out completely.
  • The Tag: Mrs. Kurdsmen, an elderly neighbor of Frasier's, demands her medication for her blood clots back but Frasier will only give it to her if she gives him the camera she used to take a picture of his butt with.note  She relents and gives up the camera, but once she gets her medication back, she purposely drops it again. As Frasier stoops to pick it up, she whips out another camera and takes another picture of his rump with it. And the whole cycle happens again.
  • You Are Fat: The general gist of C&C's taunts toward Frasier. Especially when it comes to his butt.
