Recap / Fate Grand Order Event 41 Summer 2019 Las Vegas Official Bout

Go To

This time, summer's zany hijinks are taking place in Las Vegas, the city full of debauchery and vice, with seven Servants controlling their own special casinos as obstacles to the Holy Grail. But fear not! Miyamoto Musas-, erm, sorry, Miyamoto Iori is here to help the protagonist once again triumph over a gauntlet of Servants.

Tropes:

  • Aborted Arc: At the end of the Fourth Casino Okita J. Souji mentions that since she is stuck with a jetpack she may as well help the protagonist with the condition that should Hokusai win all her matches they should use the Holy Grail to help her return to normal with the group welcoming her, but in the next Story Quest she is nowhere to be found disappearing for the rest of the event outside some Extra Quests where the topic of returning to normal never comes up
  • Absurdly High-Stakes Game: Suiten Palace plays with this heavily. Anyone who enters has their QP and "EXP" converted into gold and purple tokens. The only sort of gambling done here is via slot machine, which requires one token per pull and are not rigged (as in, the slots are completely fair and not arranged so that the house always wins in the long run) and you can play as long as you want as long you have tokens to spend. It's even pointed out it's very beginner-friendly and appealing to even those who are well-off and just want a good thrill over a big payout. The catch? a single token is worth one million QP (but the smallest possible payout is still ten tokens and a big payout is worth a thousand). As for the purple tokens that represent "EXP"? Those are meant to represent a person's very existence, so you can literally gamble your life.
  • Anti-Frustration Features:
    • Spending the QP you've earned does not make the event QP Counter go down, meaning that you're not penalized for actually using the piles of cash you've earned.
    • During the fights where Summer Hokusai would normally have a type disadvantage she's usually given a buff to ignore said disadvantage.
  • Call-Back: Siegfried laments that he doesn't have access to Das Rhiengold to solve their QP problems, but thinks better on it when he realizes that would cause a whole different set of problems, which refers to the 2018 Halloween event where the Noble Phantasm does cause havoc.
  • Cash Gate: All of the missions require betting a sum of QP to get in and story missions require you to earn a certain amount of QP to access.
  • Casino Episode: The entire story takes place in a Las Vegas-themed singularity, with a lot of servants enjoying their vacation in various ways.
  • Comically Missing the Point: One of the responses the player can pick in Nitocris' casino when Kotarou gets their attention will lead to the protagonist excitedly noticing a voucher for taking pictures with Medjed instead of focusing on the Letter of Challenge Kotarou was obviously pointing at.
  • Crocodile Tears: Weaponized by Gareth as part of Moriarty's plan to weaken Lancelot. It gives him a debuff during his boss fight, though she almost cries for real after they win.
  • Fictional Counterpart: Among others, "Gildalay" for Mandalay Bay.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Jeanne's segment has a play about Greece, where the actors mention that only Greeks deemed worthy of the gods are allowed to enter Olympus, with everyone else stuck in the area below. This is pretty much the central obstacle for Chaldea in the fifth Lostbelt's first part.
    • In the epilogue battles, Romulus is given the title of "Grand Olympic Servant", which foreshadows their status as the Grand Lancer.
  • Imagine Spot: Summer Okita fantasizes about the rest of the GUDAGUDA cast gushing over her new swimsuit.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Lambdaryllis takes this role as the first Swimsuit Swordmaster who could be called actively malevolent (draining people of their EXP to make them her slaves making various figurines for her and planning on swallowing all of Las Vegas into herself once she obtains enough EXP to strengthen herself), makes Hokusai legitimately question her ability as a Swordsmaster, and lays down the hints of how this Singularity is more malevolent than it seems and that Musashi has more to do with it than she's openly admitting.
  • Loophole Abuse: In the HIMEJI Survival Casino's battle royale, each team is composed of four members. But teams can carry out "attachments" on them, which Osakabehime abuses by having Anne Bonny bring Mary Read as a teammate and recruiting Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II as she can get Giant Mecha Eli-chan involved, something which she can use to summon Csejte Pyramid Himeji Castle.
  • Monty Haul: While events in general are a good way to earn resources, since this event is a Vegas-themed event it's themed around betting and gaining large amounts of QP.
  • Mood Whiplash: In a kooky event about fighting Swimsuit Swordmasters, Moriarty comes up with counters to the Aloha Knights. He beats Tristan by exploiting his fetish for married women. He beats Lancelot with Gareth, Lancelot's adoring ward whom he ruthlessly butchered with his own hands along with scores of other loyal knights to escape just punishment for his crime of defiling the chivalry he was meant to embody. The shocked protagonist has to cut Moriarty off from going any further.
  • Non-Indicative Name:
    • As Nobukatsu points out, none of Rakuichi's Swimsuit Daimyo have swimsuits.
    • As the Summer Lion King points out, out of the three Aloha Knights, Tristan is the only one wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
Protagonist: I thought that was odd...
    • Of the Seven Swimsuit Swordsmasters only two of them (Heavenly Demon Musashi and Okita J. Souji) actually use swords
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Musashi gets one when Merlin hints at her involvement in the singularity.
  • Penny Among Diamonds: The protagonist's group is out of place compared to the extravagance of the casinos and the rich servants helping them out. One problem they face whenever Hokusai challenges another Swordsmaster in the first few casinos is the outrageous entrance fee, forcing them to think of ways of either raising the entrance money or another rich servant helping them out.
  • Required Party Member: The battles against the Swimsuit Swordmasters require you to field Summer Hokusai in the front.
  • Versus Character Splash: A versus screen, complete with a voiceover, appears whenever a Swordsmaster is challenged in battle. The Final Battle against Heavenly Demon Musashi, on the other hand, is framed much like how the Seven Swordsmasters of Shimosa was to denote the seriousness of the stakes.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The whole event is a Lighter and Softer Shout-Out to the Shimosa event, though this time it's Hokusai that's the central protagonist while Musashi, though she still has a notable role, now takes the position of on-again, off-again mentor as well as main instigator/antagonist.
