When Meg is erroneously reported to have died in a car crash, she goes along with the story to start a new life elsewhere; the Griffins experience a life without Meg. Air date, May 3, 2020.


"Better Off Meg" contains examples of:

  • Attending Your Own Funeral: Meg attends her own funeral after hearing about the news of her "death". As soon as she notices nobody cared about her, she decides to leave Quahog.
  • Call-Back: This isn't the first time that Chris has kidnapped one of his siblings just so he can retain his newfound popularity.
  • Died on Their Birthday: Played With. Meg fakes her death on her birthday.
  • Failed a Spot Check: The rest of the Griffins never noticed that "Meg" was actually a barrel with her signature hat on it, even after Meg rang Peter and tried to tell him.
  • Fake Orgasm: After Meg comes clean with her family about faking her death, her mother, Lois, empathizes with her, explaining that women fake lots of things. Lois, herself, admits to faking both her orgasms and being impressed about Peter's accomplishments at work.
  • Faking the Dead: After hearing she was dead on the news, Meg uses this to her advantage to escape and start a new life outside of Quahog.
  • Flashback: Parodied. While trapped in the warehouse, Meg sees her life flash before her eyes. The previous episode clips that end up being shown have nothing to do with Meg whatsoever.note 
    Meg: Oh, come on! I was in the Kingsman fightthat could've been in there!
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Brian and Stewie discussing the low turnout to Meg’s funeral, before admitting they’re not there either. The two promptly flicker and reveal that they’re holograms, and a Jump Cut reveals the real Brian and Stewie went to the arcade instead.
  • It's All About Me: Chris kidnaps Meg and hides her in a warehouse so he can stay popular in school.
  • Literal-Minded: Meg asks Siri to play “Kiss from a rose” by Seal. Her phone plays a literal seal barking to the song.
  • Karma Houdini: Chris suffers no repercussions whatsoever after he kidnaps Meg.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: When asked what her name is, Meg looks down the hall of her new apartment and comes up with the name "Natalie Hallway".
  • No Sympathy: As Lois and Brian cry over Meg, all Peter does is tell them to stop, getting progressively less sincere and more annoyed in the process.
  • Pedophile Priest: Before leaving the church, Meg accidentally finds one kissing a kid in a wardrobe, mistaking it for the exit door.
  • Skewed Priorities: Chris would rather be popular in high school than let his sister back in his life.
  • Starting a New Life: After witnessing her accidentally reported as dead, and noticing that nobody cared about her in the funeral, Meg decides to take this opportunity to move out of Quahog and start a new life. It doesn't last.
  • Status Quo Is God: At the end of the episode, Meg moves back into the family.
