Recap / Family Guy S12E3 "Quagmire's Quagmire"

Go To

While returning his Apple laptop, Quagmire meets Sonja, a woman with a sexual appetite as voracious as his — and things turn pear-shaped when she kidnaps him for her sex dungeon. Meanwhile, Stewie reconnects with his old teddy bear, Oscar.

Tropes:

  • Bad Future: One of Peter's cutaway gags features a parody of Planet of the Apes.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Sonja uses Quagmire's "Giggity" after making a sex joke.
    Quagmire: That's my word!
  • Bowdlerization: The following scenes and lines were cut/altered between the TV version and the DVD version:
    • Stewie's line, "Fuck it, here's a new one" has "fuck" bleeped out on the TV version.
    • Quagmire's line about Sonja, "Her vagina has enough storage space for a giggity-byte" has "vagina" replaced with "mouth" for the TV version.
    • Quagmire's line, "I'm pretty fucking far from all right!" when Ida finds him in the sex dungeon has "fucking" bleeped out on the TV version.
    • Quagmire's line at the very end: On the TV version, Quagmire says, "My dad told me he's pregnant." On DVD, the line goes, "My dad's pregnant with my kid."
  • Caught with Your Pants Down: Peter walks in on a "masturbating Eskimo" who is rubbing his own nose note
  • Comically Missing the Point: Mayor West demands a refund for his Apple computer because the apple on the front "already had a bite taken out of it".
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Averted, actually, unusually for this show, Sonja's treatment of Glenn is shown to be horrifying and it is. If Peter, Joe and Ida didn't intervene, things would have got worse.
  • Furry Reminder: The Cutaway Gag of Brian howling over a fire engine siren. Also when Stewie catches Brian humping Rupert, Brian retorts that dogs like to hump stuffed animals.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Stewie says this to Brian after catching him humping Rupert:
"You know Rupert's a dude, you gaylord?"
  • Love Triangle: Between Stewie, Rupert and Stewie's old teddy bear (Oscar) and later, Brian, Stewie and Rupert.
  • Overly Long Gag: A Cutaway Gag has Peter take so long with deciding whether or not to upgrade his meal at a fast-food diner that apes have retaken the Earth by the time he decides.
  • Parental Incest: Sonja coerces Quagmire into having sex with his own transgender father (which, disturbingly enough, she goes along with). Quagmire regrets the act, but the end of the episode sees him telling Peter that he impregnated his father (which is impossible).
  • Pregnancy Does Not Work That Way: At the very end of the episode, Quagmire tells Peter that his father is pregnant by him (Sonja coerced Quagmire into having sex with his dad). Quagmire’s father is a transwoman — as such, she doesn’t have the proper biological equipment for having a child. Ignoring that, though, considering in a previous episode Quagmire was revealed to be 61 years old, Ida would likely be in her 80s. Even if she were somehow able to biologically conceive, the chances of this would be astronomically low as most women aren't fertile by age 45, let alone 80+. Likely Played for Laughs, since this is never brought up again.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: When Peter is at the Apple Store, a black employee comes up to him and asks if he can help him. Peter doesn’t believe he actually works at the store until he puts on a pair of glasses.
  • Swapped Roles: A very drunk Peter and Joe swap keys, with the logic that neither can drive their own car due to being intoxicated. Later, Peter, while still drunk in Joe's cop car, pulls Joe over and administers a sobriety test.
