Recap / F Is For Family S 3 E 7 Summer Vacation

Go To

The Murphy family has a crappy vacation.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: While complaining to Frank about how he drove her parents and their children off, Sue starts to feel pain and clutch her belly. Frank mistakes this for her going into labor, so he grabs a bowl and some tongs to deliver the baby. Sue starts laughing about this, pointing out that she is actually getting stomach cramps from the steak he made for dinner. She starts laughing even more when she realizes her husband's ridiculous attempt at a delivery. This all puts Sue and Frank in a much better mood than what they just were in.
  • Big "NO!": The Murphy children all yell this when Frank turns up Tommy Tahoe on the car radio during the trip.
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: When Kevin comes to the horrifying realization that the place his family is going to is the same place where he almost drowned as an infant, he fearfully asks his parents if this is true. They quickly deny it, then Sue quickly points out that there's an ostrich farm up ahead. Kevin is still not wavered.
  • Clothing-Concealed Injury: Ginny is wearing a pair of sunglasses in the beginning of the episode to hide the black eye that she got from the previous episode.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Stan and Marilyn establish themselves to be Obnoxious In-Laws to Frank when they first appear.
  • Face Framed in Shadow: Chet has this trope when letting the police know about the Murphy residence's illegal new room addition.
  • Foreshadowing: When Goomer brings in the Murphys' mail while they are at the cabin, a postcard saying "Greetings from Tulsa" is visible. This postcard will provide the setup for the overarching storyline for season 4.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Among one of the photos that Goomer looks at in the Murphy residence is one that shows Kevin and Maureen getting plenty of presents while Bill only gets one. He is shown to be quite unhappy by this.
  • Honor Before Reason: When Susan suggests staying with her parents instead of the rundown cabin, Frank blows her off since he and Sue's parents have it out for each other.
  • I Have No Son!: Stan and Marilyn have severed ties with their son and Susan's brother, Louis, for being homosexual.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Maureen complains that nobody ever pays attention to her anymore, which then Bill immeditaely interrupts her to complain.
  • Vacation Episode: The title of the episode says it all.
  • Your Television Hates You: When trying to surf through the television in the cabin, Sue comes across a commercial for the salad spinner, with Henrietta starring in it. Sue is not amused by this.
