"Let's go take some pictures!"

Quick Shot Ed is the 10th episode of Season 1 of Ed, Edd n Eddy.

The Eds are exploring Eddy's attic when Eddy finds an old polaroid camera, which produces a powerful and blinding flash that dazes whoever is unlucky enough to see it. After testing it out on Ed and Double D, Eddy decides to go out and take pictures in the culdesac. While messing around, Kevin shows up and Eddy uses the camera to keep him from beating him up, leading to him falling into a trash can and rolling off. Ed wants to take more pictures and Double D suggests making ID cards with them, but Eddy wants to find a way to make a profit off of them. He steps into the trash and sees a calendar photo, getting the idea to make a calendar of photos of the local kids and sell it back to them for cash, and they head off on a neighborhood photo safari to get them.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: You can’t go around taking pictures of people without their consent, as it is an invasion of their privacy.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The magazine centerfold gag. At first you think Double D is looking at a sexy pinup, but it's actually a photo of a praying mantis.
  • Blinding Flash: Everyone Eddy takes a picture of is blinded by the camera's flash.
  • Brown Bag Mask: At the end, the Eds put on paper bags over their heads to cover up the "makeovers" the Kankers gave them, each bag having their faces drawn on them.
  • Butt-Monkey: Kevin is constantly made a fool of by the Eds thanks to Eddy's camera. This is also one of the few episodes where the Eds actually get away with it, too.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Double D is shown to be just as disruptive and intrusive as Ed and Eddy are in this episode; if this were done in a later season, Double D would likely spend the entire episode reprimanding Ed and Eddy for treating the Cul-de-Sac kids like animals.
  • Forced Transformation: Rolf gets transformed into a wiener by falling into his own meat grinder. He is not amused and orders Victor the goat to attack the Eds.
  • Impairment Shot: Some POV shots featuring colored dots due to the flash of Eddy's camera.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After all the trouble the Eds were causing with the camera, it culminates with them being captured by the Kankers and getting girly hairdos that become their calendar photos, much to the other kids' amusement.
  • Literal Ass-Kicking: The Eds get rammed extremely high into the air when Victor the goat rams himself into them.
  • Makeover Torment: As punishment for taking their picture while dying their hair, the Kankers do the Eds' hair up like girls. Just to make it extra ridiculous, they got several combs and an entire hairdryer stuck in them.
We're gonna make you pretty! We're gonna make you pretty! We're gonna make you pretty!
  • Naughty Birdwatching: As the Eds try to take a picture of Nazz doing aerobics in her bedroom, Ed looks through a pair of binoculars. However, he aims them at the TV set.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The Eds caused their own downfall in this episode. They didn't need to go to the Kankers to take any pictures.
  • No-Sell: Lee is unaffected by the camera flash and immediately can tell it is Eddy, probably because of her hair covering her eyes.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When Jonny is reading a story to Plank, he comes across the line "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?", but stops before saying "wood" and says a concerned "Oh my..."
    • Kevin does this before he falls into the dumpster.
    • When the Kankers find out the Eds took a photo of them from their window, Eddy can only mutter a worried "Run, boys..." when the gravity of the situation sinks in.
  • Running Gag:
    • Someone getting dizzy from the camera flash whenever their picture is taken.
    • Kevin constantly getting put through humiliating situations.
    • The Eds screaming "(X)'s gone mad!" whenever someone charges them.
  • Sexophone: Parodied when Double D looks at a magazine centerfold of a praying mantis.
  • Shout-Out: The look Kevin has when he's chasing the Eds on his bike is a reference to The Terminator.
  • Sinister Shades: Kevin wears a pair of these in a later encounter with the Eds, presumably to keep Eddy from blinding him with the camera again.
  • Skewed Priorities: As the Eds are running from Kevin, Eddy stops and takes a picture of Jonny 2x4 bathing with Plank.
  • Something Else Also Rises: When Double D is looking at a centerfold of a magazine, a door stopper sound effect plays.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Sarah goes berserk when the Eds make Jimmy cry by flashing the camera at him and tears apart the living room to attack them, scaring them out of the house.
  • The Voiceless: Nazz doesn't speak in this episode. She's also the only one Eddy doesn't successfully take a picture of.
  • What Are Records?: Ed finds a vinyl record and thinks it's a donut.
  • Wildlife Commentary Spoof: Double D treats the picture taking excursion like a wildlife safari, commenting on the cul-de-sac kids' behavior as if they were animals.
  • Wingding Eyes: Various characters get spiral eyes after getting blinded by Eddy's camera.

Rolf is a Wiener

When the Eds distract Rolf at work, he ends up getting transformed into a wiener by falling into his own meat grinder. Unlike most examples of this trope, the change is not permanent and is set up purely for a gag.

How well does it match the trope?
