Recap / Donkey Kong Country S 2 E 6 Four Weddings And A Coconut

Go To

DK is pressured into marrying Candy. When he hears about the potential forthcoming wedding, K. Rool excited by the prospect of attending a wedding. However, when he learns that he's not invited, K. Rool decides to crash the party and steal the Crystal Coconut in the process!

  • An Aesop: A marriage is a big commitment and everybody has to be ready for it, and it's not something to pressure someone into. A healthy relationship has both parties on the same page about their status. DK is too much of a childish idiot to consider a serious marriage to Candy, and Candy quickly spirals into being selfish and unreasonable to the point she tries to marry Bluster just so she can have the status of being married.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Bluster causes Candy to pause when he asks if DK is actually willing to marry her.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: While Candy is right about DK's wishy-washiness, she's not helping by becoming a clingy wannabe bride and both make for a rather poor couple in this episode.
  • Bouquet Toss: Klump is disappointed to leave the wedding after stealing the Coconut since he wanted to catch the bouqet. At the end, Bluster catches the bouquet by default since he's still recovering from being squashed by DK and it lands on him.
  • Bridezilla: Candy devolves into a tyrannical bride who is so eager to be married that she decides to marry Bluster on the spot despite not loving him.
  • Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Though she probably would've left him even if they went through with the marriage, Bluster slows down the wedding due to objecting to the idea of caring for Candy for richer or poorer and wanting to get a big prenup to ensure she doesn't get anything out of him from the union.
  • Evil Is Petty: K. Rool is a big, fat baby about supposedly not being invited, and wants to ruin everything just because of it.
  • Friendly Enemy: K. Rool, Krusha and Klump were actually invited to the wedding... but K. Rool believes he wasn't because Funky accidentally lost his invitation. He's outright livid thinking that he isn't being extended the same courtesy.
  • If I Can't Have You…: K. Rool decides if he wasn't invited to the wedding, then there won't be a wedding at all.
  • It's All About Me:
    • K. Rool is excited at the prospect of a wedding, but mostly because he thinks he's going to be the guest of honor who will be pampered.
    • Bluster warns Candy that if she marries him, she's going to have to sign a massive prenup, making it clear she's not really going to gain anything from the marriage.
    • Diddy tries to be a supportive wing-man to DK but it's only because whether Candy marries him or not, Diddy believes he benefits from it. If Candy doesn't say yes, things stay as they are and he and DK remain bachelors. If Candy does say yes, then Diddy believes he's going to take DK's house for himself.
    • Candy quickly grows possessive and selfish about getting married, and when DK seemingly stands her up, she is willing to marry Bluster on the spot just to be married.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Downplayed. Bluster turns out to be right that DK is initially too chicken to marry Candy, but it's not out of not loving Candy, it's just he's not comfortable with taking that step.
  • Jerkass Realization: Downplayed. Even when DK is ready to go ahead and marry Candy, she realizes that it's coming at the cost of him going to save the Crystal Coconut, and that she's been selfish about the whole thing. She also eventually admits she wants to focus on her career at the moment. She ultimately gives DK her blessing to call off the wedding so he can go stop K. Rool.
  • Loophole Abuse: When K. Rool doesn't get an invitation to the wedding, Klump simply suggests that he come as his plus one, but K. Rool is too insulted by not getting invited in the first place.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Discussed, K. Rool states the only enemies at a wedding are the In-Laws.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • At first, K. Rool is delighted to hear of the wedding and wants to congratulate DK and Candy. He also wants to give a toast of honor. But when he thinks he wasn’t invited, he quickly returns to his usual villainous ways.
    • At the end of the episode when DK saves the Coconut from K. Rool, Bluster joins the others in cheering to congratulate DK.
  • Ship Tease: Krusha seems somewhat receptive to the idea of marrying Klump, though he doesn't mind when Klump shuts down the misunderstanding.
  • Skip to the End: During the climax, Cranky tries to speed up the proceedings since DK refuses to leave the ceremony to stop K. Rool.
  • Spoiled Brat: While officiating, Cranky calls Bluster a "pompous, obnoxious, spoiled brat mama's boy of a baboon".
  • Status Quo Is God: Despite the prospect of DK and Candy getting married, Candy decides to call it off and be content with their relationship as is for the time being.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Funky loses K. Rool's invitation and sets him on the warpath that leads him to nearly claim the Crystal Coconut while everybody's busy at the wedding.
  • Villain Has a Point: Upon learning K. Rool apparently wasn't invited, Klump suggests he go as his plus one. K. Rool shoots it down, pointing out that not getting an invitation in the first place means he still wouldn't be welcome.
  • Wedding Episode: The plot revolves around DK and Candy potentially getting married.
  • Wedding Smashers: K. Rool and the Kremlings attack the wedding as petty payback for the former apparently not getting invited.
  • With Friends Like These...: Diddy is pretty selfish as noted in It's All About Me. When DK is distressed since Candy's said yes to marrying him, Diddy just looks forward to claiming DK's bachelor pad for himself since DK is going to move in with his new wife.
