Cupcake and Dino are hired by Uncle Chance for the tedious job of checking his grocery's inventory, but the two are more interested in finishing the job than doing it well.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Despite wanting nothing to do with Inventory Day, Dino is still amused by Uncle Chance coining the term “in-FUN-tory”.
  • Batman Gambit: Uncle Chance knew his nephews would try to get out of Inventory Day by taking other general services jobs, so he booked them for the whole day.
Uncle Chance: Clients come first, amiright?
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce: Inventory Ariel creates a river of hot sauce and when Dino sticks a mop into it, it bursts into flame.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick:
Cupcake: This is gonna take forever!
Dino: Yeah, but if we don’t do it, there’ll be consequences! And punishment! And death! …That last part was creative license.
  • Broken Echo: Upon walking into the inventory room, Dino asks “Does it ever end…end…end…?”, creating the echo himself. However, his voice is then heard coming back to him saying “No it doesn’t…doesn’t…doesn’t!”.
  • Dénouement: At the end of the episode, Uncle Chance reveals that he was never actually kidnapped. He and Inventory Ariel planned the whole thing together to teach the boys a lesson about the importance of inventory. Even the soup monster was a paid actor.
  • E = MC Hammer: As Dino counts the inventory, an extremely convoluted math equation is shown on his clipboard. He then determines that the total number of items in the entire stacked-full inventory room…is 14. This is later his same exact guess when Inventory Ariel asks them for the inventory number in order to free Uncle Chance.
  • Food Eats You: Inventory Ariel uses a giant soup monster to try to keep the boys from doing the inventory and saving their uncle.
  • Instant Home Delivery: When Dino calls the Friendship Company to order more toilet paper, as soon as the words have left his mouth a delivery truck comes crashing through the wall and drops off boxes of stock.
  • Ominous Fog: Fog fills the inventory room when Inventory Ariel arrives and she disappears into it with Uncle Chance.
  • The Power of Friendship: Subverted. Cupcake suggests that they use “friendship” to stop the soup monster. Dino says he appreciates the sentiment but tells him that’s not going to work. Cupcake then corrects him that he meant they should soak the soup up with Friendship brand toilet paper.
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: Hugo wakes up Cupcake and Dino by standing by their bunkbed and saying “Alarm sound! Alarm sound!”.
  • Scary Flashlight Face: Uncle Chance does this when he tells the boys “No shortcuts!”.
  • Spoof Aesop:
Dino: Well, we learned a valuable lesson.
Uncle Chance: Is it that inventory is an incredibly important aspect to the wellbeing of any retail store?
Cupcake: Um, sort of. But more that we need to have Hugo clear all of our gigs with us before we accept them!

Cupsy

Cupcake becomes popular with the arthouse circuit after being spotted for his hedge trimming skills.

Tropes:

  • 15 Minutes of Fame: This episode has Cupcake briefly becoming a famous artist. He enjoys the sudden fame until it puts his brother in danger.
  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Cupcake being considered a talented artist quickly goes to his head, causing him to neglect his general services job and turn his back on his brother.
  • Artsy Beret: Cupcake starts wearing one when he becomes an artist.
  • Brick Joke: After Cupcake becomes Cupsy, he tells Hugo that if he wanted rules he’d go to the ruler store. Being Sarcasm-Blind, Hugo gets excited at the thought of a store just for rulers. However, the ruler store apparently did exist because Hugo is seen later with two big shopping bags stuffed with rulers.
  • Fiction 500: Noel Rollbar is so rich that his gold rings have gold rings.
  • Forced Creativity: Noel tells Cupcake that if he can’t make a piece of art that’s better than Dino with a stripe of blue paint down his face, then he’ll keep Dino captive in his home forever. Cupcake finds it difficult to perform under the pressure though.
  • Hallucinations: Exhausted from the heat and the monotonous job of trimming the hedges, Cupcake hallucinates a talking branch that tells him to cut the hedge into creative topiaries.
  • Here We Go Again!: Cupcake and Dino are able to escape Noel Rollbar’s house when Hugo becomes his new artistic idol. He then puts Hugo in a glass case so he and the rest of the audience can admire him working on his schedules.
  • Hipster: Cupcake becomes a major one, thinking everything is uncool and beneath him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Cupcake finally snaps out of his Cupsy persona when Dino gets taken away by a horde of fans who had mistaken him for a “Cupsy original”.
  • Sidetracked by the Analogy: Dino gets sidetracked by his own analogy.
Dino: I always say you should stop and smell the roses, or smell anything really! Not garbage though, don’t smell garbage.
