Jack: <Player's Name>, I'd hope to visit Bangalore one day, but never under these circumstances! The mysterious plague we've been called to help with is unlike anything I've seen before!

The Bureau arrives to Bangalore, India, so Angela and Lars can provide help with a deadly virus outbreak that has been killing hundreds of people for the past two weeks. There, Jack and the player are tasked with collecting the body of student Sunil Dhudwar, who was found inside of a just reopened Shiva temple.

Tropes:

  • Alliterative Name: Gourav Gajendragadkar.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Om Padmasana is this for the Bureau, who aren't sure if he's a scammer pretending to be a spiritual guide or genuinely has reinvented himself as a guru.
  • Ax-Crazy: It becomes clear as you arrest him that Ayush is completely off his rocker, given how he describes what he did.
Ayush: Fine, you got me, <Rank> <Name>. I killed Sunil. And launched a new era for the world!
Jack: A new era? You call causing hundreds of deaths a new era?!
Ayush: The world must be saved from itself. As a sociologist, I know! We've got a huge overpopulation problem! Over a billion people in India alone!
The recent disasters were a sign. This virus is the perfect solution to overpopulation!
When Sunil told me about his research, I knew. The virus would kill millions and free up the planet for those who managed to survive!
Jack: Do you even know how to stop the plague you unleashed? Do you have any idea for the cure? A backup plan? Anything??
Ayush: The cure? No, why would I? My work is already complete!
    [At his trial]
Ayush: Guilty and proud, Your Honor! Sunil died for a better world.
Judge Adaku: Your idea of a better world is very different from mine! Mass murder is never the solution!
Ayush: Sunil didn't understand, either. He told me about his virus research, but he didn't see what it meant for the world.
No matter. He still became the first sacrifice on the altar of a brighter tomorrow!
Judge Adaku: I'm shocked you don't display even a shred of regret for the deaths you've caused! For your heinous crime, this Court sentences you to life in prison!
Ayush: My life doesn't matter to me! You've arrested me, but I've won. The virus is out there, doing my work!
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Shweta is a weird example. While she's the one who created the virus and hid her research about the cure until you busted her, she's still the one who helps Angela and the Bureau discover the final ingredient necessary for creating the cure, allowing you to save Lars' and hundreds of other people's lives.
    • There's also Warren, who gets put in charge of distributing the cure to the entire city with Rising Hope after you deliver it to him.
  • Call-Back: Warren Goodfellow reappears as a suspect, while O.M. MediLab is mentioned again from the same case. Om Padmasana also reappears as a quasi-suspect.
  • Catchphrase Interruptus: When Lars tries to crack one of his usual knock knock jokes, Jack interrupts and tells him to get over with the analysis, since they're on a rush there.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Angela gets some prominence in this case, as Lars falls sick in Chapter 3 so she has to perform his analyses and also becomes your partner in the Additional Investigation while looking for a cure.
  • Depopulation Bomb: Ayush released the virus because he wanted to depopulate Earth enough for "a new era" to begin, since he saw the earthquakes and tsunamis as signals that the world needed to lose inhabitants.
  • Evil, Inc.: This case makes clear that O.M. MediLab is not good news, as they're the ones who indirectly helped create the virus while remaining as shady as ever.
  • Evil Malthusian: Ayush infected Sunil with the virus hoping it would spread far enough through the world to decrease the world population.
  • Evil Teacher: Professor Ayush Patil deliberately infected one of his students with a man-made virus so he could spread it all over the city and create a plague that would wipe out the entire population if not controlled.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Both Lars and Angela get them due to their Sleep Deprivation.
  • Find the Cure!: Lars gets infected with the virus at the beginning of Chapter 3, forcing Jack, Angela, and the player to look for a cure while looking for the responsible of spreading the disease in the first place.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Warren claims he met the victim long ago but forgot about him due to all the stress he's suffering thanks to the plague.
  • For Science!: Dr. Noorani's motivation for creating the virus was because she was interested in studying Dracoxia, the experimental antiviral drug created by O.M. MediLab.
  • A God Am I: While not directly stated, it's clear that Ayush is suffering from a godhood complex due to believing he had to release the virus as some sort of Population Control, claiming that it was the right thing to do for the world.
Jack: I can't believe that Lars and all those others got sick because some maniacal idiot decided to play god!
  • Granola Girl: Averly Worthington, a yoga-practicing hippie obsessed with chakras, spiritual stuff, and Om Padmasana's teachings.
Averly: I'm practicing yoga and I'm not sick. People should be more spiritual, like me, and then they'd stay healthy.
  • The Immune: While you don't meet them, Dr. Noorani found someone with blood immune to the virus, allowing her to advance in her research for a cure.
  • It's All About Me: Gourav Gajendragadkar clearly only cares about himself, to the point he's willing to abandon his own son if that means saving his reputation.
Gourav: But you know what I've heard of? The epidemic! And I can't stand around where I might get infected! India can't bear the loss of a musical talent like me!
  • Mad Scientist: Subverted. While she did create a deadly virus that has been wrecking the city, Dr. Shweta Noorani genuinely didn't want to evoke such a catastrophe with it, and she genuinely feels remorse for her actions. She even helps you find the cure during the Additional Investigation.
  • The Man Behind the Man: O.M. MediLab are revealed to be the ones behind the creation of the virus, as they paid Dr. Shweta to perform tests on the Dracoxia antiviral drug they had created, which could birth a deadly virus if not properly handled.
  • Man Hug: Jack and Lars hug after the latter recovers from the virus.
  • Manly Tears: Jack visibly cries after Lars falls victim of the virus, since that means he's only got a few hours to live unless a cure is found.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Considering he willingly released a deadly plague that has been killing hundreds of people for the past two weeks, Professor Ayush Patil definitely qualifies as this.
  • Parental Abandonment: Gourav abandoned his son Sunil after his mother got pregnant, since he was the product of an affair and he didn't want to be involved on a scandal.
  • Passed-Over Inheritance: During the Additional Investigation, Elliot discovers that Averly is Secretly Rich and she has just made a will that leaves all of her fortune to Om Padmasana, which makes the Bureau even more suspicious about the guru's legitimacy.
  • Patient Zero: The victim was this, as the killer injected him with the Synthetic Plague so he would spread the virus to other people before dying off.
  • The Plague: The main focus of the case is dealing with a plague that has been affecting Bangalore for weeks, as well as Lars and Angela's efforts to find a cure.
  • Primal Scene: When you find the body, Jack mentions how it's now the most disgusting thing he has seen ever since he caught his parents in bed.
  • Puppy Eyes: Jack tries to perform these with Angela so she can give them the autopsy results due to her being too tired, but it doesn't work.
Angela: Jack, I've got three children and one Lars. Puppy eyes don't work on me.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Averly Worthington is a parody of G Hannelius, and is named after her character Avery from Dog with a Blog.
    • Gourav Gajendragadkar is a parody of Bappi Lahiri.
    • In the Entrance Hall scene, there is a bottle of LEMON soda parodying Mountain Dew.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Both Angela and Lars have been suffering from this due to needing to work 24/7 to find a cure for the virus.
  • Strong Girl, Smart Guy: Sunil Dhudwar, who was a nerdy and bright science student, dated Averly Worthington, a fit yoga practitioner. Their differences actually led to their break-up according to her.
  • Synthetic Plague: The plague that has been destroying Bangalore was an experiment created by Dr. Shweta Noorani and the victim himself, all with a little help of O.M. MediLab.
  • Turn to Religion: After Lars is saved from dying due to the virus, he apparently starts following guru Om Padmasana's teachings, much to Jack's chagrin.
  • The Unpronounceable: Jack has a lot of trouble pronouncing Gourav's last name.
Jack: <Player's Name>, that torn paper was a ticket to the concert of some Gourav Gajd... Gajer... Gajendragadkar!
