Those numbers don't look good.

Jack and the player arrive to Athens, Greece, so they can track down the Promethian cult, whose origin goes back to the country's ancient times and appear to be preparing an attack now that Greece is going through an economic crisis. Once there, they find the body of finance minister Demetrios Metaxas stabbed in the back atop of a pillar in the Acropolis.

Tropes:

  • Back Stab: How the victim was killed.
  • "Begone" Bribe: Elliot "bribes" you with some clues in exchange of Jack leaving him alone.
  • Burial at Sea: The killer attempted to do this with the victim's body (as shown by a tide table with instructions you find), but Jack and the player arrived at the crime scene before it could happen.
  • Call-Back: Archibald Gilchrist and Jacqueline Proust reappear as suspects.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Penelope claims she wouldn't kill the victim since his very existence was what gave her a purpose.
Penelope: The truth is, I’m quite lost without my father, <Player's Name>. Rebelling was my purpose in life, it will never be the same again without him.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Elliot tells you he found information about the Promethians on the Dark Web, Jack asks if the Dark Web is an ancient cult that worships spiders.
  • Continuity Nod: While deactivating the bomb left at Santorini Island, the player tells Jack how they have done this before.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Jacqueline casually wrote a novel titled "The Murder of the Minister" days before the actual minister was murdered, something that Jack finds too convenient.
  • Cool Mask: The Oracle wears one.
  • Counterfeit Cash: During the Additional Investigation, you discover that Archibald created counterfeit money to prank the victim, who kept nagging the European Bank for financial aid to help with the crisis even after the Bank ran out of money.
  • Dead Guy on Display: The victim was killed and left in the Acropolis just like King Agamemnon.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Nikolaos killed Demetrios because his sleaziness kept plunging the country into even more crisis, believing that Greece needed a better financial minister than the victim.
  • Dying for Symbolism: Dupont manages to deduce that the victim was killed and displayed the same way it happened to King Agamemnon, which means the killer knows Greek Classical Mythology.
  • Engineered Public Confession: Marina uses some of skills to make Archibald admit he faked his assassination attempt.
  • Fake Assassination: Archibald built a fake bomb then made it look like the Greeks were targeting him, since the country wouldn't stop asking the European Bank for more money and Archibald needed an excuse to refuse financial aid.
  • Faux Horrific: Elliot recalls how he had to do horrible things during his childhood such as yachting holidays in the Caribbean with his family
  • Genre Mashup: Jacqueline prides herself on her new book, which includes political scandal, money, Greek mythology and romance.
  • Heat Wave: When you speak to Elliot during an analysis, he complains that Greece is too hot and sunny to be wearing black.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": Penelope Metaxas changed her last name, and is now called Penelope the Rebel.
  • Honest Advisor: Nikolaos Costas, the victim's advisor, truly cares about the country's well-being, to the point he's willing to kill if that means Greece will be in better hands.
  • In the Back: Demetrios died from a stab wound in his back from a dagger, found still in him when you stumble upon his corpse.
  • Incredibly Obvious Bomb: A fake one is built by Archibald to stage an assassination attempt towards him.
  • It's All About Me: Jacqueline is far more interested with continuing her book than helping you solve the case, something that even Jack notices.
Jack: <Player's Name>, this Proust woman sounds too self-centered to commit murder… but how does she always get mixed up in investigations?
  • It Is Beyond Saving: We finally learn the Promethian's plan in this case: cause as much chaos in Europe as possible so the countries' leaders cannot longer be trusted by the public, prompting them to vote "Yes in the Referendum for an United Europe.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: When you discover Jacqueline booked a flight to Spain in the midst of a investigation, she claims that, since she writes mystery best sellers, she could easily evade the police if she wanted to.
  • Mad Oracle: The Oracle, an old woman who lives in a cave and claims to see the future in a very cuckoo manner.
The Oracle: I don’t concern myself with the past. I only look into the future. You’ll catch the killer, <Player's Name>, but terrible things will happen. I see chariots of fire… shrieking Harpies… Zeus’ lightning!
  • Missed Him by That Much: Penelope tells you she ran into Brother Klaus, who was planning to use Archibald's stolen Counterfeit Cash to bribe people into voting "Yes" for the United Europe Referendum, meaning you almost caught him before he escaped again.
  • Mistaken for Spies: Jack deduces that, since Jacqueline is always involved with murder, celebrities, and high-profile people, then that must mean she's actually a secret agent.
  • Nervous Wreck: Nikolaos Costas, the victim's financial advisor, is always seen nervous and stressed. Justified, since the country is currently going through an enormous crisis and he's the one who murdered Demetrios.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Subverted. Elliot discovers that The Oracle's real name is Cassandra Papadakis in a later portion of the investigation.
  • Parental Neglect: Demetrios was neglectful towards his family, specially his daughter Penelope, who decided to change her name because of it.
Penelope: But Metaxas didn’t care about his family any more than he cared for his country! He only wanted money and status!
  • Rebel Leader: Penelope the Rebel (yes, that's her real name), the leader of a rebellious group in Greece against the capitalists that, according to her, are the ones who have destroyed the country's economy.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Elliot angrily leaves his office when Jack berates him for spending all of their money on a fictional currency in the midst of a financial crisis, forcing Jack to apologize.
  • Sherlock Scan: The Oracle manages to deduce you're from The Bureau with one of these.
Jack: Ugh, <Player's Name>, how on earth does she know that? Have we been ambushed by… the Greek counter-intelligence?
The Oracle: Nah, it’s obvious from your foreign accent and patronizing attitude. And the finance minister’s been murdered. Simple logic, no clairvoyance necessary.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The victim resembles Euclid Tsakalotos, and is named after Ioannis Metaxas.
    • In the Oracle's Cave and Odysseus' Grotto scenes, there are many statues of characters in Classical Mythology, including a cyclops, the Nemean Lion, Taurus, Medusa, the Sphynx, a phoenix, Poseidon's trident, a gryphon, a siren, and the Minotaur.
    • In the Santorini Island scene, there is a picture of the Virgin Mary and the Pope's hat.
      • Another picture of Mary is in the Santorini Terrace scene.
    • When you find the body, Jack exclaims "By Zeus!"
  • Sleazy Politician: As we learn from a newspaper and his financial advisor, Demetrios was more interested in partying, taking bribes, snorting cocaine, and sex scandals than doing his job as the financial minister of Greece, which made Nikolaos kill him so he would get replaced by a better person.
  • Soapbox Sadie: Penelope the Rebel, leader of the rebels in Greece against the capitalists.
Penelope: Metaxas ruined the lives of hard-working Greeks!
He sold the country to greedy bankers, who eat unemployed babies for breakfast! And you want me to shut up about it?!
  • Title Drop: When you speak with Nikolaos for the first time and he says the country's too broke for Demetrios to die.
Jack: Well, murder’s cheap, Mr Costas.
  • Unconfessed Unemployment: The Oracle was actually a college professor until Demetrios stopped funding education, which made her unemployed and forced her to live in a cave.
  • United Europe: The Promethian's plan is inducing so much fear into people that they're willing to vote "Yes" in the Referendum to unite Europe, which would make it easier for them to control.
  • You Are Not My Father: Penelope hated her father so much she decided to change her last name to stop being associated with him, seeing Demetrios as the main cause for the Greek crisis.
