Carmen: Are you kidding me? We come here to grill our main lead about this manuscript and she got her head chopped off? This is insane!

The player arrives to Paris, France so they can meet up with Carmen Martinez, their new partner, and fashion magazine editor-in-chief Annette Sommeur, who has placed the highest bid for an ancient manuscript whose torn page was used to write a blackmailing threat for the killer of the previous case. Unfortunately, their investigation gets halted when they stumble upon Annette's decapitated body inside the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.

Tropes:

  • Ancient Conspiracy: It's revealed that an ancient cult known as The Promethians, which was believed to be extinct, is back, and is implied that they're the ones behind Prince Albert and Annette's death during both past cases.
  • Alliterative Name: Grace Goude.
  • Artsy Beret: One of the killer's attributes is that they wear a beret, and those who do are Grace (a photographer), Marcel (a mime), and Constantin (the supervisor of the Versailles Castle).
  • Bad Boss: Annette treated Grace, a photographer working under her, like a slave, and threatened to put her on a fashion blacklist if she quit.
  • Cliffhanger: The case ends with The Bureau going to Germany, since Oktoberfest is about to begin and it seems like the people behind both Prince Albert and Annette's deaths are planning to do something during it.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: Jacqueline says this when she accidentally reveals to you that she was after the victim's manuscript, putting her at the top of the suspects list.
Jacqueline: Oops… did I just say that out loud?
    Carmen: Yes, you did!
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": Princess Sofia of Girona insists on informally being called Sofia.
  • Drama Queen: Both Princess Sofia and Jacqueline tend to act in a very melodramatic manner, the former throwing a tantrum because of what Annette wrote about her in a fashion magazine and the latter calling the police (i.e. you) because the Louvre wouldn't let her borrow a decryption tool.
  • Eccentric Artist: Jacqueline Proust, a Drama Queen writer that gets inspiration from murdered people and who Dupont considers a "pathetic excuse for a fiction author".
  • Everyone Hates Mimes: One of your suspects is a mime called Marcel Robin who both the victim and Carmen hate, the former because he made fun of her with a wig and the latter due to his hesitation to talk.
    Carmen: Man, I hate mimes…
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: One of the killer's attributes is that they smoke, which frustrates Carmen quite a bit.
Carmen: So we know that the killer smokes. Great… We need to find one smoker in France! That should take about ten years…
  • Greed: Constantin killed Annette because he was offered money to do so and return the manuscript to The Promethians.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Constantin Perrier, the supervisor of the Castle of Versailles, is always in a sour mood
  • Immoral Journalist: The victim was known as "The Queen of Mean", and she shows. She bossed Grace around like a private assistant and threatened to put her on a blacklist so she would never work again if she quit, humiliated Princess Sofia in her magazine just for the giggles, and disrespected Constantin's rules about what to do in the Hall of Mirrors for her photoshoot, including bringing a guillotine.
  • MacGuffin: The ancient manuscript that the victim bought but was stolen by the killer is treated as the central figure of the case, since said manuscript would also reveal more about the organization that ordered the assassination of Prince Albert in the previous case.
  • Ma'am Shock: Age and Gender-Inverted example with Elliot, who dislikes being called "little man" and "kiddo" by Carmen.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: While explaining how the victim died, Angela happily mentions how beheading by guillotine takes only two-hundredths of a second, something that Carmen finds disturbing.
  • Off with His Head!: The victim was decapitated with a guillotine.
  • Royal Brat: Despite being 32, Princess Sofia still acts like a whinny spoiled child, such as throwing a tantrum because Annette put her on a cover about fashion disasters in the royal family.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Princess Sofia tries to invoke this during the Additional Investigation by launching her political career for the right wing faction in Spain.
Carmen: Politics? I would have expected something different from royalty…
Sofia: Typical left-wing assumption! You people think that royalty does nothing but live off taxpayer money, but that’s not me!
  • I Should Write a Book About This: When you inform Jacqueline about Annette's death, she uses it as an inspiration for her next novel.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Snarking Thanks: Carmen gives one to Dupont after he tells her she shows more taste and intellectual capacity than he imagined.
  • Skip to the End: Unlike Jack, Carmen has much less patience with Lars' jokes and derails, insisting on moving forward with the analyzes and not his corny lines.
  • Spooky Photographs: Non-supernatural example. Constantin took a photo of Annette just before killing her with the guillotine, since The Promethians needed proof that he had done the deed.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Jacqueline tends to speak like this.
Jacqueline: I wasn’t in danger, but my research certainly was! I’m being repressed! CENSORED!
There’s a special item that I require for researching my next novel. I can’t tell you about it, obviously. SPOILERS!
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Despite distrusting Jacqueline, Carmen accepts to work with her about deciphering the Promethian Manuscript per the player's request.
  • I Work Alone: In her introduction, Carmen tells you she's used to working alone, but she can make an exception now that she works for The Bureau.
  • Write Who You Know: In-Universe example with Jacqueline deciding to write her next novel about Annette (who she knew very well) and her death.
