"Five marbles says she goes wide."
A trailer for this episode can be viewed here.

A Plot: Karen is tasked with playing an online phone game for Fitzy, with the goal of beating "The Queen". Oscar gets frustrated that the game's popularity has led to people swarming his property.

B Plot: Wanda and Hank settle a bet with mini putt.

C Plot: Lacey asks Emma to fill in for her at The Ruby, but Emma slips on a golf ball during Wanda and Hank's game. Davis has a thumb injury from overusing his phone and decides to bond with Emma over their shared pain, but he accidentally gives her a painkiller overdose, and Brent struggles to take Emma's place.

  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: When Oscar tries complaining about people swarming his lawn to Davis, Davis suggests he download the phone game and beat them through it. He ends up #1 on the Leaderboards.
  • The Bet: The B Plot centers around Wanda wanting Hank to help her move an old couch, and Hank trying to get out of it by making a bet over who can make the best trick shot using some golf balls and putters he stole from a shut-down mini-golf course.
  • Bland-Name Product: The phone game "Gemmy Blitz" seems to take elements from multiple phone games, such as sound effects from Candy Crush Saga and capturing creatures in real-world environments like Pokémon GO.
  • Bratty Food Demand: When Brent's filling in at the Ruby, one of his customers is unhappy that her "cheeseburger, hold the cheese" came with cheese...and when Brent removes the cheese, she then asks him to cook her a new cheeseburger "with" cheese, since it looked so appealing with it.
  • Dark Horse Victory: The competition between Karen and "The Queen" for the online rankings ends with both of them beat by Oscar.
  • Descent into Addiction: Karen starts out mocking Fitzy's "Gemmy Blitz" phone game, before getting frustrated trying to one-up "The Queen" and spending Fitzy's money to upgrade his in-game avatar and resources (though the first part of The Tag has her convince Fitzy it was worth the money). Lacey realizes she's similarly become addicted after learning that her business is being mismanaged by Brent and turned into a mini-golf course by Wanda and Hank while she's busy playing the game.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: One of the Ruby's customers orders "a cheeseburger without cheese", and is irritated when Brent tells her that's just a regular hamburger.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Wanda loves mini-golf, but hasn't actually visited the local course in decades. After she and Hank then have an entire impromptu mini-golf competition that Wanda wins, Hank asks if she'd like to go mini-golfing for real, but Wanda's opinion of the place hasn't changed.
  • Innocent Innuendo: Upon reaching #1 in the Gemmy Blitz leaderboards because Karen and Lacey were distracted talking with each other, Oscar describes it as getting his rocks off (as in, getting Gems off his lawn) while they had a girl-on-girl moment. The girls then comment on the unfortunate phrasing.
  • Literal Metaphor: When Wanda and Hank take their mini-putt game to The Ruby, the other customers bet "all the marbles" on it...because one of them only has marbles instead of real cash after paying for his meal.
  • Lost Food Grievance: When Emma slips on the golf ball and injures her trick shoulder, she also drops a chili dog she was delivering to Brent from The Ruby. Brent's then shown more concerned over the food than his mother.
  • Medium Awareness: In the second part of The Tag, for losing the mini-golf competition, Hank has to help Wanda get rid of an old couch (with assistance from Davis, as punishment for inflicting Emma with a Mushroom Samba). When he asks if he can have it and put it on his lawn, she lets him, and the announcer from the "Gemmy Blitz" game states "YARD COUCH ACQUIRED"...prompting a nearby Emma (who's almost back to normal) to ask if anyone else heard the voice.
  • Mushroom Samba: After Emma gets injured, Davis tries to help by tossing some painkillers into her mouth, not knowing she's already taken some of her own. The resulting overdose leads to Emma dancing in the middle of Corner Gas and acting flirtatious with Oscar, among other peculiar actions.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: When Karen first bumps into Lacey while playing "Gemmy Blitz" for Fitzy, Lacey seems to have no clue what Karen's talking about. However, when a "Gem Mine" pops up on Oscar's property, she reveals that she's actually highly skilled at the game.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Hank and Wanda have a mini-golf competition in Corner Gas and The Ruby instead of the town's actual mini-golf course because Hank saw it was shutting down. When the owner storms into The Ruby at the end and yells at them for stealing attention from his course, it turns out to only be shut down for renovations.
  • Shout-Out: When Lacey starts doing dives and other tricky maneuvers to catch Gems in "Gemmy Blitz" before the other players, Karen asks if she watched The Matrix last night.
  • The Rival: "The Queen" is Fitzy's rival in "Gemmy Blitz". Karen quickly learns that it's Lacey.
  • Tempting Fate: The golf ball that Emma trips over was actually shot by Brent, seconds after Wanda and Hank tempted him into having fun with them and he said "Alright. Who's this going to hurt?"
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: When Karen and Lacey realize their Descent into Addiction, they decide to mutually quit...but Lacey still brags that The Queen placed higher than Karen, and would've been #1 if not for Oscar.
