Recap / Camp Lazlo S5 E9 "Peace Frog/Lumpus's Last Stand"

Go To

Air date: March 27, 2008

"Peace Frog": Whilst having a mid-life crisis, Lumpus buys a monster truck while the Bean Scouts train frogs for a leap frog competition.

"Lumpus's Last Stand": In the final episode of Camp Lazlo, Scoutmaster Lumpus decides to do away with laundry and paint on his clothes instead.

"Peace Frog" contains examples of:

  • Mid-Life Crisis Car: Insecure over getting bullied in a supermarket by a bunch of jerks with a nice car, Lumpus buys a gigantic monster truck that spews out disgusting black smoke.
  • Pet the Dog: Lumpus bonds with one of the frogs. At the end of the episode, he sets all the frogs in the race free.
  • Production Foreshadowing: A frog in a suit is seen at the end of the episode, a possible reference to Joe Murray's 2010 short Frog in a Suit.

"Lumpus's Last Stand" Contains examples of:

  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: While the camera generally positions itself above everyone's crotches, zoomed-out shots show that nobody is drawn with any genitalia.
  • Body Paint: Lumpus decides that laundry is too difficult and just decides to paint on his clothes instead. Everyone thinks he's a genius and follows in his example, only for this way of thinking to end when it starts to rain.
  • Gainax Ending: The final minute of the show (as detailed under Sudden Downer Ending) comes out of absolutely nowhere. The only amount of "foreshadowing" to this could be when a police officer calls Lumpus "a bloated escapee from some asylum" in "The Big Cheese".
  • Grand Finale: Of Camp Lazlo.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: It’s heavily implied the real Scoutmaster of Camp Kidney is an elderly Heffer Wolfe from Rocko's Modern Life. He has the same body type, the same voice actor and prefers to be called a "steer" instead of a cow.
  • Naked People Trapped Outside: When it starts to rain in Prickly Pines as Lumpus is giving a speech, everyone's body paint washes away, leaving them as naked as the day they were all born.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: While never losing its lighthearted tone, the series ends on the revelation that Lumpus is a lunatic who kidnapped and impersonated the real Scoutmaster for the whole summer.
  • Wham Line: "That's him, officer! That's the bad moose who locked me in the closet all summer and stole my job as Scoutmaster! He fooled all of you! He's an impostor, a fake, and worse, he is no Scoutmaster of Camp Kidney!"

Okay, I think it just officially got to the point where it can't get any weirder.
