When a rainfall ruins the activities David's planned out to win Camp Counselor of the Year, he does the next best thing- make Dolph counselor-for-a-day! Meanwhile, Neil goes missing, so Max and Nikki go buddy cop to find him. Is Neil all right? Will David win his award? Eh, probably not on either counts.
Tropes:
- Adolf Hitlarious: Dolph's... mannerisms come in full-force today.
- A Day in the Limelight: Dolph's episode.
- Establishing Character Moment: After existing in the margins for five episodes, Nurf finally gets some characterization as an oddly introspective and earnest bully.Nurf: Looking for Neil?Nikki: What do you know, Nurf?Nurf: Nothing. I'd just like to be included for once! I feel like I'm always in the background of your adventures!
- Even Evil Has Standards: Nurf cops to being a physically abusive bully, but he sticks to a strict schedule and won't bully Neil on his religious holidays. Non-denominational holidays are okay, though.
- Good Cop/Bad Cop: Done by Max and Nikki while interrogating Space Kid.
- Inner Monologue Conversation: The final exchange of the episode between David and Nikki takes place telepathically, much to David's shock.
- Jewish and Nerdy: Nurf mentions that he doesn't bully Neil on the Sabbath because he knows Neil is observant.
- Literal Metaphor: The storm over Camp Campbell is so bad that cats and dogs actually start dropping from the sky.
- Omniscient Council of Vagueness: The committee who confer the Camp Counselor of the Year Award dress in hooded robes and wouldn't seem out of place in Welcome to Night Vale.
- Take That!: Dolph states his intention to "make Camp Campbell great again!"
- Those Wacky Nazis: Dolph's characterization in this episode.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: David's concern over winning a counselor award makes him a lot more self-centered than usual this episode.
- Yank the Dog's Chain: When it seems like David might get his award, the committee instead gives it to Dolph.
