Recap / Bones S 3 E 12 The Baby In The Bough

Go To

A new mother's car is run off the road, killing her but sparing her baby and requiring Booth and Brennan to locate the child's family.

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Law: Booth claims that pawn shops aren’t allowed to buy guns. This is false as long as the pawn shop has a federal license and complies with state laws they can and do sell firearms.
  • Babies Make Everything Better: Defied. Meg had a baby in the hopes it would make her husband grow up and take responsibility. No such luck.
  • Improbable Infant Survival: Meg's car gets run off the road and she dies, but her baby gets thrown into a nearby tree and is without a scratch. Brennan claims it's because his baby seat is design to take the impact.
  • Parental Abandonment: Andy's father is an alcoholic who wants nothing to do with the baby.
  • Precision F-Strike:
Brennan: There was a baby in that car! You son of a bitch!
  • Reverse Psychology: Angela declares that she wants a million babies. Hodgins thinks that's too many, but instead of telling her that he tells her that they might as well get started right now and that there'll just be more of her to love when she gets fat.
  • Spock Speak: Played for laughs with Bones, who uses Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness when talking to the baby. She tries to reason with it when it cries, and when she figures out how to entertain it she squees "Phalanges! Dancing phalanges!" while waving her fingers in front of its face.
