Go To

The kids hunt for the missing class chinchilla, while Bob and Linda have a disappointing date night.

Adventures in Trope-Sitting:

  • 30 Minutes, or It's Free!: Spoofed; after Gene sneaks into the high school party by posing as a pizza delivery man, he goes to the bathroom and says he'll be out in thirty minutes or less.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Teddy's appearances in the episode.
    • Teddy can be seen singing along to a song in the car. At least, that's what it seems.
Teddy: (singing) I... wish my radio worked!
    • A few seconds later, the Belchers and Wayne hide behind mailboxes because if Teddy sees them outside of the house he would call Bob and Linda. Louise's bunny ears can be seen from behind the mailbox briefly before Tina pushes them down. Teddy does a double take before saying this:
Teddy: Whoa, I thought that was Harvey.
    • Later in the episode, Teddy drives by the kids again. Tina gets the idea to freeze so that he won't see them. He doesn't see them, but not because they froze. Teddy eats pad thai while driving, only to realize that he has a nut allergy, causing him to choke, missing the kids.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Both plotlines.
    • The Belcher kids get the chinchilla back, but Louise gives up her chance to care for him by giving him to Wayne, and the chinchilla is clearly less than happy about it. They also fail to get in bed before Bob and Linda get home, costing Tina her chance at getting paid for a good babysitting job.
    • Bob and Linda get banned from the bar for cheating on trivia night, but both of them agree that it was completely Worth It.
  • The Bus Came Back: Jonas, the delivery boy at Reggie's deli from "Uncle Teddy", plays a big part in the story.
  • Call-Back:
    • "Princess Little Piddles" was the name Millie proposed in "The Millie-churian Candidate". It turns out Louise had more of a right to protest the name than it seemed, because the chinchilla is male.
    • Tammy's room has a poster from her bat mitzvah in "Mazel Tina".
  • Deathbringer the Adorable: Wayne calls the class chinchilla "Atlas".
  • Do Well, But Not Perfect: Discussed; Bob notes that he and Linda should probably get some questions wrong to make it seem like they're not cheating. Linda ignores his advice. While this doesn't get them caught (they get caught because Linda drops the cheat sheet and is seen grabbing it), by the final round it's clear the host is suspicious of their sudden 180 in performance.
  • Enemy Mine: Tammy helps the Belchers (and Wayne) look for the chinchilla. She actually bonds surprisingly well with Tina.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The full answer sheet can briefly be seen. A look at the answers implies that each round has a common theme—Round 1 appears to be based on history, Round 2 on U.S. geography, Round 3 on technology, and Round 4 on Kurt Russell movies.
  • Gender-Blender Name: The class pet, a male chinchilla, is named Princess Little Piddles.
  • Gilligan Cut: Bob quickly claims he's not driving Louise out at night. Cut to Bob and Louise standing at Wayne's front door.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Louise and Wayne both agree that fourth graders shouldn't pick names, all while revealing their own names for the chinchilla.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: Bob's idea of a fun date night? Bar trivia. While it's not like nobody likes it, it's pretty clear that Linda doesn't.
  • Jerkass: Dave, the bar trivia host. Linda uses this to justify stealing the answer sheet.
  • Never My Fault: Wayne blames Louise for the chinchilla escaping despite the fact that he was the one to leave the front door open.
  • Not So Above It All: Tammy likes to make fun of Tina for being awkward, but when the kids crash the teen party Tammy is just as freaked-out about being there as Tina.
  • Occidental Otaku: Louise's nickname for the chinchilla is "Shinobu", the dictionary form of "shinobi".
  • Oh, Crap!: Shinobu/Atlas is visibly not happy with going back into Wayne's care at the end.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: It's a reference to Adventures in Babysitting.
  • Serious Business: Wayne is obsessed with the chinchilla and tried everything he could to stop Louise from taking it home.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Yuli bought the chinchilla for 40 bucks to give as a present to his landlord to make up for being short on rent. Gene points out that he could've just used the 40 bucks to help pay rent.
Yuli: Hey, you're a smart kid. Where were you five minutes ago?
  • Suspect Is Hatless: Jonas's description of Vanessa is that she has hair and pants.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When Bob and Linda spot the kids still up, Tina hastily denies that they went out and definitely not to a high school party. Bob lampshades that her saying this makes her look even more suspect.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Teddy tries to eat pad thai while driving, and then starts choking as he remembers too late that he's allergic to peanuts (which pad thai contains plenty of).
  • Younger Than They Look: Discussed; Gene apparently thought Tammy was someone's mother.
  • Your Tomcat Is Pregnant: Louise and Wayne both think Princess Little Piddles is a stupid name for the chinchilla because it's male and has testicles, but when Louise tried telling that to the rest of the class, they ignored her and kept insisting they were his "butt boobs".
