Recap / Bobs Burgers S 14 E 7 The Raccoon King And I

Go To

Linda, Tina, and Teddy attempt to protect Little King Trashmouth from Animal Control; Louise and Gene attempt to make money off a neighborhood block party; Bob meets a former member of a band he enjoyed only to have his worldview shattered.

The Tropes and I:

  • The Alcoholic: Linda visits a nearby wine shop so often that the owner knows her as Wine Lady.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Ian asks Bob if he would still consider a lifelong dream of his enjoyable if he has to do it over and over for the rest of his life just to stay afloat. As a result, Bob spends the second half of the episode in a funk before listening to the Soul Breezers gets him back out of it.
  • Boring, but Practical: While Ian's revelation that the band is miserable because they only do one song akin to Bob making burgers every day, the truth of the matter is that both the band and Bob feel happy doing it when it's all said and done. Ian doesn't seem to see the practical part much, though.
  • Call-Back: Tina mentions that she's been to two concerts, one of which she only heard from outside the venue.
  • A Day in the Limelight: While Little King Trashmouth has been the focus of B-plots before, this is the first time he's been the primary focus of an episode's main plot.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Linda called Animal Control thinking they'd help Little King Trashmouth, only for Teddy to point out that Animal Control is more likely to put him down than give him medical aid.
  • Fair-Weather Friend: Discussed; Teddy decides to accompany Linda to visit an injured Little King Trashmouth since he doesn't want the raccoon to think he's only there for the good times.
  • Flashback: A flashback of a younger Bob singing along to "Gas in My Car" plays during the end credits. Ironically, his car runs out of gas at the end of it.
  • Imagine Spot: With Ian's words echoing in his head, Bob imagines himself getting older as he works at the grill, still flipping burgers well into old age.
  • Shout-Out: The Burger of the Day is the "Everything, Everywhere, All At Quince Burger".
  • Sunk Cost Fallacy: Ian frames the band still touring as this, noting that they haven't developed any other employable skills and that they've spent so long chasing fame that they don't really have a choice but to keep touring and making music.
  • Throat-Slitting Gesture: Teddy does it when telling Linda what Animal Control is likely to do with Little King Thrashmouth.
  • The Worst Seat in the House: The stage for the concert is built in front of Bob's Burgers, so the Belchers can't get a good view of the stage. Louise is especially upset, because she charged kids to come watch the concert from upstairs; they end up watching the backstage area from another room and have a pretty good time.
