Tropes

  • Acid Reflux Nightmare: The end of the episode has Fred waking up and saying he shouldn't have eaten so much before bed.
  • All Just a Dream: Fred wakes up in alarm at the very end of the episode, showing that either the last few minutes with the kale smoothie mutant, or the whole episode, had never actually happened. Makes sense as the whole thing really stretches suspension of disbelief, even with the existence of a meteor bear starting a family.
  • Breath Weapon: The taco scorpion and crepe vulture both have one; the former has fire breath from being ordered extra spicy while the latter naturally has ice breath.
  • Continuity Nod: Krei's cell phone is still excessively slippery.
  • Faux Horrific: The heroes hear Krei screaming and head to the rescue, thinking he was being attacked by a monster. The reason he screamed? His stock was down 2.5 points.
  • Here We Go Again!: As they leave Sycorax, Fred realizes he forgot his kale smoothie, which is in the DNA combining machine. The silhouette of a smoothie monster is seen emerging from the machine with an Evil Laugh. And then Fred wakes up.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently, Wasabi secretly takes ceramic classes.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Fred mistakes Sycorax's DNA-combining machine for a microwave, resulting in it creating two monsters, a Yaki Taco scorpion and a crepe vulture.
  • Monster of the Aesop: There's a disagreement about healthy eating just before they so happen to end up fighting junk food made into monsters.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: The Yaki Taco mascot squeaking stress toy Fred gives Wasabi to help with his anxiety.
  • Security Cling: Krei jumps/falls into Baymax's arms at least three times in this episode. At one point, he's even sucking his thumb again.
  • Shout-Out: The monsters look to be from Swallow Falls.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Di Amara had to blackmail Orso Knox into investing in Sycorax and she committed multiple crimes. Turns out that this will really tank a company's stocks, shutting it down and allowing Krei to buy up their property. While the episode turns out to have been a dream, it's possible Fred drew the Sycorax building being abandoned from real life.
  • Tempting Fate: Fred tells Wasabi that "a little junk food never hurt anyone", which is the cue for the junk food monsters to appear behind him.
  • A Weighty Aesop: The episode is loosely about healthy eating. It involves junk food being turned into literal monsters that threaten the characters' lives who are fended off with a barrage of vegetables. Through this, Fred learns to appreciate healthy food both as a weapon and part of a meal.
