Recap / Big Hero 6 The Series S 2 E 01 Internabout

Go To

Jealous of Karmi's internship at Sycorax, Hiro talks Krei into letting him intern for him at KreiTech, while the rest of the team deals with the return of Noodle Burger Boy, who is on a vague quest to go "home".

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Despite learning that he shouldn't be jealous of Karmi in the last season, Hiro's back at trying to one-up her again.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Noodle Burger Boy to his "older sister", Trina.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Trina spends most of the episode equipping herself to help her "brother", Noodle Burger Boy, even though it's obvious she finds him annoying.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Of a sort. While on his rampage, Noodle Burger Boy spews out way more ketchup, mustard and pickles than a robot of his size should be capable of holding.
  • Captain Obvious: Baymax, as usual. Lampshaded when Krei refers to him as "Obvious Bot".
  • Conveyor Belt of Doom: Noodle Burger Boy puts Krei on one as incentive to force Hiro to fix him.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Trina's upgraded mech body takes down Wasabi, Honey Lemon, GoGo and Fred with one move each.
  • Did You Get a New Haircut?: Fred stops to ask this in the middle of being trounced by Trina. Noodle Burger Boy also asks this after her upgrade.
  • Don't Ask: One of the tasks that Krei's assistant gives Hiro is to pick up Krei's brown cow costume from the dry cleaner's, which she tells Hiro not to question. Later, Krei mentions while talking on the phone that he wore it for some Noodle Incident.
  • "Eureka!" Moment:
    • After Hiro decides to get an internship to one-up Karmi:
GoGo: No one's going to hire you if you're just in it to be competitive.
Honey Lemon: Yeah, it's kind of shallow.
      Hiro: (Contemplating) Competitive...shallow...yeah!
      (Cut to Krei's office)
    • GoGo and Wasabi have one later when they see the KreiTech logo in Noodle Burger Boy's ketchup footprints.
  • Evolving Credits: This is the first episode to have the updated opening featuring Mini-Max and the new villains.
  • Exactly What I Aimed At: Hiro does this when he flings his magnets at Trina and Noodle Burger Boy. As they are both robots, it doesn't end well for them.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep":
    • At Liv Amara's company, the nametags have everyone's name on them, but they only use the nicknames, not their "real" ones.
    • Averted, as Krei's assistant reveals she has a name: Judy. She never said it early because no one ever asked about it.
  • Green-Eyed Monster:
    • Hiro is still jealous of Karmi, enough to trick Krei into hiring him as an intern.
    • Krei, as well. All it takes is Hiro mentioning Liv Amara having an intern for Krei to hire him on the spot.
  • Hope Spot: Hiro attempts to remove Obake's chip from Noodle Burger Boy, but Trina interrupts him.
  • The Intern: Hiro tries to get out of his internship for Krei at the end of the episode, but since he signed a contract, he legally can't just bow out, leaving him stuck as Krei's intern in the foreseeable future. On the positive side, at least Krei will make it worth his while.
  • Losing Your Head: A running gag with Trina is her body's inability to keep her head attached.
  • "Metaphor" Is My Middle Name: From Fred: "Patrol is my middle name! Well, actually, it's 'Flamarion', my mother's maiden name. But still, pretty close."
  • Noodle Incident: For some reason, Krei had to have a cow costume dry-cleaned, but he refuses to say what it was used for.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Hiro tries to brag to Karmi about his internship at KreiTech... only for him and Baymax to bump into her while doing personal errands for Krei, including picking up his dry-cleaning (including a brown cow costume) and getting him coffee. Karmi bursts out laughing when she sees this.
  • Pet the Dog: At the end, Krei thanks Hiro for rescuing him, is impressed by his magnetic device, and offers (well... in a way, insists, since Hiro signed a contract) Hiro to continue being an intern for him, but will give him a lab this time. Although this is partly because he figures he could use Hiro's smarts for his own company success, but that's more or less what Hiro wanted.
  • Promoted to Opening Credits: Mini-Max is added into the opening starting with this episode, as well as Trina and some other future villains.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sniff Sniff Nom: A variation. When Honey Lemon and Fred find a trail of mysterious green fluid, Fred sticks his nose against the ground and puddles and sniffs them. He recognizes it as pickle juice.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
    • Krei says he doesn't know how to fix Noodle Burger Boy because he's a CEO. Wasabi later brings up the very same reason to expect Krei not to know how to do it.
    • Both Fred and Noodle Burger Boy notice Trina's new haircut first.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: Hiro tries to rub his internship at KreiTech in Karmi's face. She's unimpressed to say the least.
  • You, Get Me Coffee: Hiro is disappointed to find that his internship with Krei has him running errands instead of doing tech work. Krei does give Hiro a lab at the end of the episode, but still makes him get coffee.
