Romana, Romana, and Romana visit Luna Romana

The Fourth Doctor and the First Romana visit the Roman Empire, where Romana discovers Stoyn, now completely insane. So far, so good... until Part 2, where Romana II appears, then a future Romana II appears, then another future Romana, Romana III, appears and narrates most of the story! Phew.

As you might have guessed, it's the only "multi-Romana" story.

Tropes that appear in Luna Romana

  • All There in the Manual: According to the CD notes booklet, Mary Tamm enjoyed The Fourth Doctor Adventures: Series 2 so much that she wanted to do more audio dramas. Matt Fitton obliged with Luna Romana, but Tamm's death meant that the story was put on hold until it could be reworked. It also became a tribute to Mary Tamm.
  • Grand Finale: For the Quadrigger Stoyn trilogy. This story is in four parts, which is rare for both Fourth Doctor audio adventures and Companion Chronicles.
  • Hive Mind: Stoyn has essentially become this, as an accident with his last attempt to travel in time has splintered him into six different bodies with a shared consciousness.
  • Milestone Celebration: The third of the three 50th Anniversary Companion Chronicles.
  • Never My Fault: Stoyn continues to blame the Doctor for everything; that excuse was valid when he initially left Gallifrey, but by this point he’s clearly just angry at the Doctor to the point that it has clouded his judgement.
  • Reset Button: Stoyn attempts to hit one by using the TARDIS to basically erase human history and prevent the Doctor ever stealing the ship in the first place.
  • Stable Time Loop: Stoyn lures the Doctor to ancient Rome by stealing the TARDIS and going back in time to plant a piece of the Key to Time there over a year ago, and Romana escapes his trap by sending herself back in time so that she can then be in a position to tell herself to go back.
  • Time Skip: Between parts 1 and 2.
