Frilly Tilly

It's time for Tilly's Cornoration and Gramma is insisting she do it traditionally like all her ancestors did. But when Tilly decides to do her own things, Gramma scares her into not breaking tradition which in turn leads to breaking her as well.

"Frilly Tilly" contains examples of:

  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode is set at the country house, mainly the backyard where the Cornoration is set, with a scene in Tilly's room near the middle.
  • Break the Cutie: Tilly is obviously depressed when she is forced to follow the traditional Corneration instead of do her own things. It's also revealed during Gramma's rant that the same thing happened to her when she was Tilly's age.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Cornoration is very reminiscent of a Bat Mitzva: it's a formal ceremony for a girl in her early teens that celebrates her transition into womanhood, in which the host wears a white dress and reads an ancestral document from a scroll.
  • Faux Horrific: One of Tilly’s ideas was to add popcorn to her cornoration (a coronation themed around corn) and Gramma acts like it’s an insane request.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: In the beginning, Nancy teases Bill for crying like a baby over Tilly's Corneration. At the end of the actual event, Bill is taking it well, while Nancy is bawling her eyes out.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Gramma realizes this following her Rage Breaking Point when she sees Tilly is upset her Corneration is not going the way she wanted it.
  • Sham Supernatural: Gramma disguises herself as her ancestor to scare Tilly into doing the Corneration the traditional way.
  • Shout-Out: A coronation is instead called a "Cornoration"? This has been heard before...
  • Stepford Smiler: Tilly has several of them at her Cornoration, such as when she makes her entrance, is escorted by Bill, and does the ceremonial corn shucking, which serve as a visual signal she's upset that her Cornoration is not going the way she wants it.

Montaged

Hoping to become a champion at a sheep rodeo in just a short time, Cricket goes through training in the form of a montage, but he hits his head and soon finds himself in never-ending montages one after the other.

"Montaged" contains examples of:

  • All Just a Dream: The never-ending montages were actually a concussion-induced dream Cricket was having after being thrown against the wall the first time.
  • Company Cross References: One of the haywire montages makes Cricket a chef, and he lifts his hat to find a miniature Remy grabbing his hair, much like Ratatouille, puppeteer's name and all.
  • Eye Cam: Cricket has this point-of-view shot when waking up from his concussion-induced dream in the end.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Every time Cricket and Remy high-five, the montage starts over again.
  • Punny Name: The toughest sheep in the rodeo is named Ragin' Wool.
  • Recursive Reality: Cricket gets stuck in a repeating montage about mutton busting, so he begins a montage about learning science to devise a way out. This stresses him out so he tries a montage about relaxing, which leads to him needing a montage about learning to box, which leads to a dancing montage. And so it goes before Cricket becomes desperate to escape all the montages.
  • Recycled Premise: This short's plot and moral are very reminicent of "Them Soviet Boys".
  • Training Montage: This episode deconstructs the concept. Remy explains to Cricket what a training montage is, and Cricket thinks he can do one for real. After getting hit on the head, he tries to do it again, but the montage keeps repeating. Cricket tries to remedy this with another montage, which leads to a whole series of them.
  • We Are Not Going Through That Again: After seeing Cricket getting thrown towards a wall a few times at the end of the episode, Bill decides enough is enough since he couldn't bear seeing Cricket getting himself hurt again.
