Recap / Beast Wars S 2 E 2 Coming Of The Fuzors Part 1

Go To

Dinobot steals the Golden Disks from the Predacons and learns the truth about what planet they're on. Meanwhile, two new Transformers emerge from their malfunctioning stasis pods and Megatron has plans for them both.

Tropes:

  • Bad Boss: Silverbolt questioned Megatron's order to attack Cheetor (who just minding his own business). Big mistake.
  • Badass Boast: Inferno gets a pretty good one when Quickstrike first tries to fight back.
"Fool! Pain is my friend. Allow me to introduce you to it!"
  • Bolivian Army Ending: Referenced by Dinobot, Cheetor, and Rattrap as the last shot of the episode before it burns away to reveal the To Be Continued card.
  • Butt-Monkey: Dinobot gets past the security for the disks by throwing Waspinator into the energy field, which leads to him being crushed into a cube. As Blackarachnia arrives and Dinobot escapes, Waspinator is left to fend for himself.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Silverbolt accuses Inferno of dirty fighting and demands Quickstrike (who earlier attacked him without a second thought) be left alone.
Inferno: Oh, look, a hero! My favorite!
  • Dub-Induced Plot Hole: Japanese Beast Wars media has the Maximals and Predacons share the same activation code ("Henshin", meaning "transform"). However, Silverbolt's distaste of saying "Terrorize" has only been modified to use the new term, with him not liking saying "Henshin" making no sense.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: It doesn't last long, but it's actually Quickstrike that's skeptical of Megatron's claims, whereas Silverbolt is automatically trusting of the guy.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The first thing Quickstrike does after coming online is pick a fight with Silverbolt, solely to prove how strong he is.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • While Silverbolt is convinced he is a Predacon, he is not keen on the use of the "Terrorize" code for transforming. He would officially choose a side next episode.
    • When returning to base, Dinobot is shown holding the Alien Disk behind his back. This sets up Rhinox studying it.
    • Dinobot suspects his fate is already decided since the Golden Disks contain data from the past before the Beast Wars begun. He also suspects that he could change his fate, as well as others, if he learns how to make use of them. He then contemplates destroying them so it won't fall into Megatron's hands again. He decides to hold off and find the truth himself, but he will soon end up facing this situation later, as well as his fate.
  • From Bad to Worse: Cheetor reports that he's stumbled onto multiple Predacons. Rattrap expects an attack on the base, only to learn that Rhinox will die if such a disturbance occurs.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Megatron has to play the good cop role to the Fuzors after Inferno engages them in battle. It doesn't last long.
  • It Only Works Once: Rhinox states that the transwarp rift created by the destruction of the planet killer will only be open for a brief period of time, but doesn't initially explain why he's doing this...
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Thanks to the two stasis pods malfunctioning mid-scan, the two transformers emerge from them in the form of the aptly named "Fuzors": Quickstrike (half snake, half scorpion), and Silverbolt (half wolf, half eagle).
  • No-Sell: Quickstrike pounces on Inferno and starts biting him. Inferno just laughs, grabs Quickstrike by the throat, and begins some Metronomic Man Mashing.
  • Put on a Bus: Tigatron and Airazor depart to look for more stasis pods.
  • The Reveal: The planet the Maximals and Predacons have been fighting on is actually prehistoric Earth.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Dinobot briefly quotes the "To be or not to be" soliloquy from Hamlet while considering what to do with the Golden Disks.
    • The final minute and a half of the episode is basically a love letter to Spaghetti Western movies, between the music, lack of spoken dialogue (except in the Japanese version where the cast talks over this too), Megatron checking a timepiece, the showdown between the active Maximals and Predacons, and the final shot of the former being an outright Bolivian Army Ending homage, with the sepia image burning away to transition to the To Be Continued card. The Wild West imagery will continue into the next episode.
  • Sliding Scale of Free Will vs. Fate: Upon learning that the Golden Disks can foretell the future, Dinobot wonders if he's in control of his own fate or not. He contemplates destroying the Disks, but decides to hold onto them for the moment.
  • Surrounded by Idiots:
    • Rattrap acts like he's this, as Rhinox embarks on his newest venture.
"Oh, man, if that don't take the chrome-plated cookie. Primal's been vaped, Dinobot's disappeared, Stripes and the Bird Lady are off on some world cruise, and now you're goin' off-line?! Well, why don't we just open up the front door and invite Megatron in?!"
    • This is followed by him ordering Cheetor to go find Dinobot.
      Cheetor: [excitedly] You mean fly?
Rattrap: Do I mean fly? No! I mean take a submarine. Of course, I mean fly! Now, get goin'!
  • We Need a Distraction: The Good Cop/Bad Cop routine. Inferno distracts Silverbolt and Quickstrike by attacking them, giving Megatron the opportunity to remotely change their activation codes so he can later claim they're Predacons.

You Mean Fly?

"No! I mean take a submarine. Of course I mean fly!"

How well does it match the trope?
