Recap / Arrow S 6 E 11 We Fall

Go To

Cayden James goes on the offensive with a series of devastating cyber terrorist attacks, forcing the two vigilante teams to work again.

  • Accidental Murder: How James claims Oliver killed his son, Oliver's arrow missed his target and killed his son instead, a year to the day. Everyone on Team Arrow realizes that can't have been possible because Oliver was in Hub City recruiting Dinah during that time.
  • Actor Allusion: When Cayden comes to the mayor's office, he introduces himself as "Ben Gale". This is a reference to Michael Emerson's character on Lost "Benjamin Linus", who uses the alias "Henry Gale".
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In the end Oliver sends Cayden James the $10 million.
  • Barbaric Bully: William's classmate who makes fun of his deceased mother.
  • Big Damn Heroes: During the final scuffle, Vigilante saves Rene from Mr. Sheck, killing him.
  • Character Death: A city councilman, Captain Frank Pike and Cayden James's right-hand man Mr. Sheck/Boots get killed this episode.
  • Compound Title: With the previous episode "Divided".
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Frank Pike: fairly significant recurring character, second-most prominent law enforcement character after Quentin himself, mainstay of the SCPD since season 1: killed by electrocution in the cold open.
  • Everyone Knows Morse: Vincent Sobel sends Curtis a morse code message via his equipment, warning him about James' next target.
  • Hidden Villain: It's implied there is someone else who has intentionally released Cayden James's fury on Star City, by framing Oliver for his son's death.
  • Hollywood Hacking: In full effect, with Cayden James hacking pretty much the entire town. Elevators, computers, cars, even planes.
  • Honor Before Reason: While the two teams agree to share intel, Curtis immediately shuts down the idea of the two teams working together... until events force it so that's no longer an option. And even then Rene bluntly tells Oliver that nothing's changed.
  • Hypocrite: The Outsider's reason for not wanting to work together anymore with Team Arrow is the secret keeping. Yet they don't seem to see the need to tell them of Vigilante being a Double Agent.
  • The Infiltration: Vincent claims he's working undercover in James's organization in order to dismantle it from the inside. To prove it, he provides Curtis several leads to James's next targets and even saves Rene's life by shooting James's Number Two.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • William finds out that Oliver went back on his promise and went back to being the Green Arrow. Predictably, William doesn't take it well.
    • Felicity finds out that Cayden James's plan a few episodes back was a ruse.
  • It's All My Fault: Felicity is very shocked after finding out how she played right into James's hands a few episodes back and blames herself for every casualty in the city.
  • Jerkass Ball: Rene grabs it near the end where Oliver congratulates everyone on a good job, only for him to reply "Nothing's changed, Hoss."
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: After William gets one of the kids who picks on him off the bus to safety and gets trapped behind debris, the kid stays behind and tries move it to save him.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks:
    • Once again, the consequences of keeping secrets are shown, as William finds out about his father still being active as the Green Arrow.
    • On a lesser note, Dinah and Rene are pissed about Curtis not telling them about his encounter with Vigilante right away.
    • The Outsiders also don't tell Team Arrow about Vigilante being a Double Agent.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Mr. Sheck/Boots gets disposed of this way by Vigilante.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Just like his old man, William is quick to take charge in dangerous situations, leading all the kids outside the bus when the explosions start.
  • Misplaced Retribution: James believes that Oliver killed his son when one of the Green Arrow's arrows missed its target and accidentally hit him. In actuality, it wasn't Oliver because he wasn't even in the city when this happened.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Felicity finds out that Cayden James manipulated her into doing his bidding.
  • Parent with New Paramour: By the end of the episode, William is okay with Oliver being the Green Arrow because now if something happens, he still has Felicity to be his parent.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: One-sided. The Outsiders and Team Arrow work together in the end, with the former still being angry at the latter.
  • Trainstopping: Dinah's Canary Cry is powerful enough to do this.
  • Tranquil Fury: Cayden James is collected as ever when he confronts Oliver in his office, but beneath the calm demeanor, you can clearly see the anger about what he thinks Oliver did.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Downplayed with William, as he is less ungrateful and more shocked over his father still being the Green Arrow after being rescued by him. He never does thank Oliver for saving his life though.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Dinah and Rene are pissed when Curtis doesn't tell them right away that he has been getting intel from Vincent Sobel. Though Rene gets over it relatively in comparison to Dinah.
