Cult of Demise

Link and his party continue to investigate the labyrinths and discover some incredible and horrifying things. In the meantime, Impa and Zelda investigate the dark sorcerer Astor's past.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Expansion: Lomei Labyrinth Island's underground section doesn't just have decayed Guardian husks and treasures, but entire walls depicting Bokoblins with long horns, Moblins with headwear, and Hyrule Castle floating over a cloud of fiery Malice among floating islands, floating over a long-haired mummified corpse screaming in agony.
  • Dark Messiah: Astor officially claims that he is the Messiah of the Calamity.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Marcy the Gerudo points out to Link's group that they still have to get rid of the empty treasure chests within the labyrinths if they want to keep the scales' existence a secret. It isn't shown, but they would have needed to backtrack to the other two labyrinths to do the same.
  • The Dreaded: The Yiga and Astor didn't attack the last group of Sheikah researchers, presumably because the Gerudo accompanied the team to the labyrinth, and the Amazon Brigade of the Gerudo intimidated them away.
  • Hypocrite: Impa calls out Astor for claiming that she's a smug woman, when he himself is a very arrogant seer with a God complex, seeing himself as the Dark Messiah.
  • Internal Reveal: The Hyrulean forces finally learn of Astor, his dark powers, and the internal genocide of his cult in this chapter.
  • Irony: Impa mentions that the Cult of Demise doesn't really associate with the Yiga Clan for unknown reasons, even though the audience already knows that Astor is an ally to them.
  • Pet the Dog: At this point, Zelda is still a bit resentful of Link, but even so, she still shows concern for him when she learns he was attacked by Astor.
  • The Spook: Impa says that very little is known about the Cult of Demise, aside from the fact that they're dedicated to Calamity Ganon.
  • Talking to the Dead: The King briefly speaks to his late wife, wondering about his own competence in trying to raise Zelda and protect the kingdom.
