Road to the Ancient Tech Lab

Efforts are split to learn more about the Guardians and the ancient history of Hyrule in preparation for recruiting the Champions.

Tropes:

  • Action Mom: Tyria brought her son Silas with the group on the trek.
  • Adaptation Distillation: The attack in the Breach of Demise happens just the same, but Link is not with them, nor is Terrako or her sisters. As a result, the way the Guardian is defeated is not by using a bunch of excavated Guardians, but by one that Zelda activates herself.
  • Adaptational Explanation: Astor was the one responsible for the Guardian's corruption as a bit of a dress rehearsal to show the Yiga Clan leaders what he can do. It also reveals that the Catalyst Guardians were directly responsible for the monster attack in the second chapter.
  • Dark Messiah: Astor calls himself a messiah for the Calamity.
  • The Dead Have Names: Bani has a list of names of the dead. Four are shown, but there are many names, as there are fifty-five people who are dead, and there is a possibility that there are more.
  • Edible Theme Naming: The new Sheikah women still have names consistent with fruit
    • Uava is one letter off guava.
    • Grépe is named for grapes.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • Sooga defeats a White-Maned Lynel with just a few powerful moves, establishing him as a brilliantly effective fighter and powerful member of the Yiga Clan.
    • Master Kohga comes right in screaming and hollering as well as complimenting his two best lackeys.
  • Hold the Line: Impa, Tyria, and Ulo work together to keep the Guardian busy while Zelda works to activate a Guardian at the end of the breach.
  • Oh, Crap!: Uava and Grépe notice and are horrified when they notice the Guardian activating and targeting the princess's caravan.
  • Original Character: Uava, Grépe, and Silas are all original to the fic.
  • Spanner in the Works: Kolana and Sooga view Astor as this for reasons unknown.
  • Villain Respect: Sooga had full faith that Zelda's caravan would win out in the fight with the Guardian.
  • Wrench Wench: Zelda activates an intact excavated Guardian in seconds, saving the day in the Breach of Demise.
  • Wham Line: Sooga subtly reveals that the Yiga were responsible for the death of Zelda's mother, but more than that, they're not happy about it. In addition, they seem to be supporting Zelda over Astor for an unknown reason, but apparently they have a "plan".
  • Zerg Rush: A horde of monsters encloses in around Zelda's caravan while a Guardian is attacking them.
