Jake dreams about his death, and Finn takes action when events from Jake's "croak dream" start to come true.

Tropes

  • Arrows on Fire: Finn uses one to try to scare the Banana Man away from the area and avert Jake's death.
  • Artistic License – Space: Under realistic circumstances, Jake's croak dream would be impossible, since before he'd even have the chance to run out of breath in outer space, his body would flash-freeze, and he'd die that way. Of course, downplayed in that when his croak dream is put into action, he's underwater, instead.
  • Because Destiny Says So: The reason Jake decides that it's ok to die is because the Cosmic Owl prophesied it.
  • Black Comedy: The episode is rife with it.
  • Buffy Speak: Banana Man doesn't seem to know the definition of dynamite or exhaust pipes.
Banana Man: There's not enough boom-boom stickhole sticks in the stickhole!
  • Catapult Nightmare: Jake wakes up with a start at the end of his "croak dream".
  • Chased Off into the Sunset: The episode ends with Finn teasing Jake about how he'll have to stay right by Jake's side forever, and chasing him when he playfully runs away.
  • Death Seeker: Jake shows no fear in his death as foretold by the Cosmic Owl.
  • Depth Deception: Finn thinks that they won't have to worry about Banana Man, as he's walking towards the rising sun and will burn up when he gets too close. Jake has to point out to his buddy "You forgot how the sun works."
  • Disney Acid Sequence: The ending suddenly turns into Banana Man doing aerobics again on a background of random strobing colours.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Jake's dream about his death.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Jake never fears the end of his life being prophesized or all the things in his croak dream coming true, unlike Finn. He even looks forward to it!
  • Gainax Ending: The episode ends with Finn chasing Jake around and howling like a ghost, only to cut to a Disney Acid Sequence of Banana Man dancing.
  • Special Guest: "Weird Al" Yankovic is brought on board to voice Banana Man, who's just about as quirky as he is.
  • Together in Death: Finn figures if he can't stop Jake he'll follow after him.
  • Yandere: Possibly joking around, but Finn seems to become a platonic one for Jake at the end when Jake surmises that he'll only be able to pull off his croak dream when Finn's not around.
Finn: I CAN NEVER LEAVE YOUR SIDE EVER AGAIN FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES.
