Basic Trope: A character swims in the nude.

  • Straight: Alice disrobes before going for a swim in the lake.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice swims nude in the lake, the pond, the river, and public fountains.
    • Alice only ever swims nude.
    • Alice is always seen nude and swimming, or else on her way to or from somewhere to swim nude.
    • Multiple characters swim in the nude.
    • Alice scuba dives naked.
  • Downplayed:
  • Justified:
    • Alice is a hippie woman who does this to commune with nature.
    • Alice likes to be as hydrodynamic as possible when swimming.
    • Alice thinks she can get away with it.
    • Alice has no swimsuit.
    • It's so hot, Alice would overheat even if she wore a swimsuit in the lake.
    • Alice was dared to swim in the lake with no clothes on.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice is naked all the time except when swimming.
    • Alice dresses up further to go swimming.
    • Non-Nude Bathing
  • Subverted: Alice strips on the beach ... to her swimsuit, which she was wearing as underwear.
  • Double Subverted: She removes her swimsuit too.
  • Parodied:
    • Alice lives on one or more bodies of water; this is the most common means of active transportation.
    • Alice swims nude in a large basin of some non-water liquid. Bonus points if it's white.
    • Alice is Bob's Lilliputian companion and he lets her do laps naked in his dishes.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • (Played Straight + Averted) Alice skinny-dips on some days, not on others.
    • (Continued from Double Subverted) Alice only doffed her swimsuit to sunbathe and get an all-over tan. She puts it back on before getting in the water. But her suit doesn't stay on her.
  • Averted: Nobody swims naked.
  • Enforced: Fanservice.
  • Lampshaded:
    • "Hey, Bob, there's a nude woman climbing out of the river!"
    • "No barriers between you and the water — it's the only way to swim!"
  • Invoked: Alice visits a nude beach.
  • Exploited: Bob pulls Outdoor Bath Peeping and/or Gone Swimming, Clothes Stolen on Alice.
  • Defied:
    • Alice catches Bob trying to spy on her and drives him away ... or, alternatively, makes a point of making sure he sees her diving into the lake fully clothed.
    • Bob stops Alice from getting naked before swimming. She's in a public place and she must Think of the Children!
    • Alice changes her mind about swimming at all as soon as she sees how polluted the beach is.
  • Discussed: "It's so hot, it feels like the most logical thing to do would be to strip naked and jump in the lake."
  • Conversed: "Alice is so lucky she can get away with that."
  • Implied: Alice talks about swimming every day she can, but she's shown not to own a bathing suit.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Alice gets ill or injured from swimming nude with no barriers between herself and whatever harmful detritus was in the water.
    • Alice opens herself to embarrassment if she's spotted.
  • Reconstructed:
    • She solves both potential pitfalls by installing a pool on her property with barriers to access and viewing by others.
    • She is Made of Iron.
    • She doesn't care much who sees her in her birthday suit.
  • Played for Laughs:
  • Played for Drama: Alice is Hollywood Homely and falls victim to body-shaming by bullies.
  • Played for Horror:
    • Alice is eaten alive while she swims nude.
    • Alice is swimming nude when a rapist sees her, and...well...
