Basic Trope: The ability to assign skills to X number of slots after they've been learned/assign Mons after they've been obtained.

  • Straight: The Hero of Legendia, Prince Bob, and the four Warriors Of Light And Darkness Princess Emily, Prince Charlie, Prince Dave, and Princess Alice, can use 200 Mons placed by their Famous Ancestors, the Precursor Heroes. They can have 4, later 7, at a time, and each one adds additional effects/abilites.
  • Exaggerated: The process also works for skills, and then you can mix and match later.
  • Downplayed: You have a fairly generous number of Mons slots and you can switch them out with anything in your collection even in battle at the cost of a turn.
  • Justified: It's a failsafe their ancestors used, so they couldn't be consumed by the power. When they get the Last Disc Magic Mons, they've proved they can handle the maximum of 7.
  • Inverted: When they change classes in the Job System, they can have all the classes skills and nothing else. When they change, they can't use anything else.
  • Subverted: Later, the whole system is dropped.
  • Double Subverted: It is replaced with a stricter Skill Slot System.
  • Parodied: Barrier Change Bosses make fun of the heroes.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: There's no skill slot-style thing in Heroes of Legendia.
  • Enforced: The writers are going for a Cliché Storm, so they used this.
  • Lampshaded: "Man, I hate being able to only use 4 at a time..."
  • Invoked: The failsafe is planted when a nemesis of the old group hijacks 10 Mons and is consumed by a black hole of power.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: The Precursor Heroes change the way the Mons work.
  • Discussed: "Now, do I choose Magisplosion or Critical Condition Invigoration?"
  • Conversed: "I always got stuck fighting the Final Boss' Fusion Dance because of the system."
  • Deconstructed: They can never be well-rounded, and become self-conscious about entering boss battles.
  • Reconstructed: Because they are not well-rounded, they have teamwork for synergy.
