Basic Trope: An unlikable character becomes nicer after being raped/sexually assaulted.

  • Straight: Alice is a selfish Jerkass and Femme Fatale, who Really Gets Around. She is raped and after getting over the trauma, she becomes kind and selfless (and monogamous).
  • Exaggerated: Alice is the Big Bad. She is repeatedly gang-raped and then does a Heel–Face Turn to become the Big Good.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice is a bit of a Jerkass who Took a Level in Kindness after being groped against her will.
    • After being raped, Alice gains a Morality Pet in the form of someone who supported her during her recovery but is still an absolute Jerkass to everyone else.
  • Justified:
    • The people Alice was unkind to still went out of their way to support her after she was assaulted, so she wants to become a nicer person to repay them.
    • Alice made an Enemy Mine with the heroes to take revenge on her rapists.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: After fully coming to terms with her rape, Alice goes right back to her old ways again.
  • Double Subverted: However, this is only an act so people won't think she's weak, and she's really more of a Jerk with a Heart of Gold / Good Bad Girl.
  • Parodied: Alice has a dial on top of her head that switches from "slut" to "prude" after she is raped.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice becomes much more erratic after being raped, sometimes being nice and sometimes being nasty.
  • Averted:
    • Alice is raped, but it is not portrayed as a 'redemption' for her.
    • Alice becomes a nicer person, but is not raped.
  • Enforced:
    • The author is wanting to show somebody who not only gets over the trauma, but does so in a way that leaves them a better person—that you aren't necessarily going to be left a Defiled Forever Broken Bird.
    • The author intends the story to have an Aesop about how being a Hard-Drinking Party Girl leads to assault.
  • Exploited: After learning that Alice was assaulted, The Hero attempts to befriend and comfort her to convince her to do a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Invoked: Alice's rapist raped her to "teach her a lesson."
  • Implied: Bella mentions that she and Alice became friends after Bella helped Alice recover from her rape.
  • Deconstructed: After being raped, Alice blames herself, believing she 'deserved it' for being promiscuous and rebellious. She tries to make 'atonement' for it by being 'modest' and 'selfless', and so becomes a shell of her former self, with poor self-esteem, and always thinking it's her fault when horrible things happen. The fact that she's still struggling with the trauma of being raped on top of all this doesn't help her well-being in the slightest, leading to some Sanity Slippage.
