Basic Trope: Someone who's thought to be bad or intimidating is liked by an animal or child.

  • Straight: Alice, the Cute Kitten, rubs up against Bob, who has had a history of shoplifting and is a bit off a tough guy.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob's a Deadpan Snarker, but not all that bad.
    • Alice doesn't rub up against Bob, but she's generally skittish and she doesn't run away from him.
  • Justified:
    • Alice is an affectionate kitten and Bob has shown no ill-will towards her.
    • Alice is Bob's Morality Pet.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: Alice walks up to Bob, but then she runs away.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Then she walks back and rubs against him.
    • Then Diane, a baby, smiles at him.
    • Then Eric, a dog, licks him.
  • Parodied: A cat rubs the Obviously Evil Emperor Evulz, and everyone assumes he's a good guy,
  • Zigzagged: Bob, who's stolen but also done some good things, walks into a room where Alice the kitten, Charlie the adult, Diane the baby and Eric the dog are hanging out. Alice rubs up against Bob, Diane cries and Eric runs away but then looks at Bob and wags his tail. Charlie remarks "Sorry, I don't know what's got into them today."
  • Averted: None of the animals or children like Bob, if there are any in the work at all.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: Charlie, who's nearby, says, "Is Bob good inside or are cats just horrible judges of character?"
  • Invoked: Charlie hands Alice to Bob.
  • Exploited: Bob tries to prove he's a good guy by saying "a kitten likes me".
  • Defied:
    • Bob stays away from animals and children.
    • People keep animals and children away from Bob.
  • Discussed:
Charlie: "Why does that little kitten like Bob so much? Doesn't she know he has a history of shoplifting?"
Freda: "I don't think she does."
  • Conversed: "Why do the animals and children like these shady characters?"
  • Implied: A photo of Alice rubbing Bob is seen in the background at Charlie's house.
  • Deconstructed: Seeing as Alice likes Bob, it leads Charlie and Freda to believe that cats are bad news.
  • Reconstructed: They reason that, well, how's Alice to know that Bob has a history of shoplifting?
  • Played for Laughs: Bob starts to make Baby Talk at Alice but then decides that's not dignified and stops.
  • Played for Drama: ???
