Basic Trope: A team of supervillains, usually convened to take out a hero or group of heroes.
- Straight: In response to the proliferation of superheroes, a group of supervillains form their own coalition to take them down: The Compendium of Evil.
- Exaggerated: The Compendium of Evil has a worldwide reach, complete with multiple hidden depots and legions of Mooks.
- Downplayed: Apart from the occasional Villain Team-Up and large groups of faceless criminals like The Hellbound Gang, there are no major villainous organizations.
- Justified: Superhero teams prove to be highly effective at taking out criminal enterprises, prompting a response from shrewder villains if they plan to survive.
- Inverted: A group of superheroes found The Fifth Element to protect the world from global threats.
- Subverted: The Compendium exists mainly to serve as a tax-dodge and safehouse for its members.
- Parodied: The members of The Compendium meet in a highly conspicuous location with shoddy security and incompetent staff to plot countless nefarious deeds, and are constantly surprised when the heroes gatecrash their meetings.
- Zig Zagged: The Compendium was founded to take out its members' superpowered enemies, which they do. Once its primary function is achieved, it disbands until the next crop of heroes makes itself known.
- Averted: Due to clashing egos, villainous team-ups don't extend to more than two or three members at once.
- Enforced: The Compendium employs efficient shock troops to keep its more recalcitrant "members" in line.
- Lampshaded: "Why should the do-gooders have all the fun?"
- Invoked: Since most halfway intelligent bad guys are willing to put aside their differences to seek vengeance against their enemies, The Compendium is a logical next step for supervillainy.
- Defied: No villainous organization lasts very long due to the instability and moral bankruptcy of their members.
- Exploited: The founding members of The Compendium establish the organization to further their own plans, and use its combined resources to bully weaker members of the villain community into going along with their agenda.
- Discussed: Various villains meet informally to discuss the pros and cons of uniting to take out their enemies.
- Conversed: The logistics of getting more than two supervillains to agree on something long enough to fight their mutual enemy are addressed.
- Implied: The Compendium is a secret society of villains with no overt indicators of membership.
- Deconstructed: The Compendium of Evil immediately fractures into several different factions grouped around the most charismatic and/or powerful members, collapsing dozens of different evil schemes and giving the good guys a fun show to watch in the process.
- Reconstructed: Instead of wasting time fighting the heroes, the villains use The Compendium to market their above-board skills to the highest bidder to pay for their more illicit enterprises and put a harmless public face on its members' actions.
