Basic Trope: They may be dim-witted, but their kindness & humbleness makes up for it.
- Straight: Danny the Dummy is the series' ditz who happens to be a really Nice Guy with a pure heart of gold.
- Exaggerated: Danny is Too Dumb to Live, but happens to be an All-Loving Hero of The Cutie category.
- Downplayed:
- Danny isn't as smart as the others, but is fairly nice when you get to know him.
- Danny is falls into the Dumb Is Good category, being utterly stupid but pleasant.
- Danny is a very nice person who can be fairly clueless, though he occasionally shows signs that he may be smarter than he seems.
- Justified: Despite having never attended school in his youth, Danny was taught to be kind towards others.
- Inverted:
- Danny is unintelligent or foolish, but rather obnoxiously, unkindly, selfishly, and at times even maliciously so.
- Insufferable Genius
- Danny is the most brainless and at the same time the most heartless person in the world.
- Danny is dull-witted and also violent, tough, and rough.
- Danny is very smart, but is also the kindest person in the series.
- Subverted:
- Danny the Dummy seems like a pretty nice character - until he starts insulting others, gets handed the Jerkass Ball and eventually becomes an Insufferable Imbecile.
- Danny the Dummy seems like he's incredibly dumb, but was Obfuscating Stupidity the whole time in order to deceive others.
- Double Subverted:
- Although he doesn't mean to behave this way - he honestly means well.
- Danny was only pretending to be stupid by being happily goofy; it turns out that while he's not that dumb, he is still a relatively naive person overall - and just as much of a Nice Guy as he acts.
- Parodied: Danny has been shown to be Too Dumb to Live, but is a Friend to All Living Things, to the point where even the biggest Jerkass around has Danny as their Morality Pet.
- Zig-Zagged: Danny is all over the place; he flip-flops between being either stupid but a very nice guy or completely chaotic towards others without any thought behind it, good or bad.
- Averted: Danny's intelligence level and manners don't define his character.
- Enforced: "I'm thinking about making an comic foil to Frederick. Let's create Danny."
- "I was also thinking about adding a seemingly clueless, happily ignorant & dopey yet very childlike & warm-hearted side character who befriends Hiro and his friends, let's have Danny become a loyal best friend of theirs throughout the story."
- "I was considering making the main protagonist of my cartoon Danny the Goofball. He would be this complete and utter doofus living in an World of Weirdness, but not just simple-minded - also well-mannered and caring. When he unwittingly does acts of heroism out of simple good-naturedness, it'll show that no matter how foolish or cluelessly naive he might be, he can still be a hero.
- "What if Ann was also portrayed as a clueless and absentminded yet big-hearted airhead?" "That sounds cute."
- Lampshaded: "You may have a tiny brain, but your heart is two sizes too big, and that's all that matters."
- Invoked: Danny treats everyone nicely in an attempt to gain allies so that if his stupidity puts him in danger, a friend of his will get him out.
- Exploited: Danny, while a massive goofball, still always does the right thing, even if it seems mind-blowingly foolish. His insistence on attempting seemingly idiotic plans in the name of good means that the villains find it impossible to predict or counteract his actions.
- Defied:
- Danny tries to become smarter so he won't be easily fooled by anyone taking advantage of his kindness.
- Danny grows tired of being patronized by others due to his lack of intelligence, and becomes antisocial to drive others away.
- Discussed:"Poor Danny, he has such a good heart, but he always falls for Eugene the Snake's lies.""What would you expect from a name like Mayor 'Simpleton'?"
- Conversed:"Aww, that's so cute! Danny really cares for Frederick, like a true friend! In spite of his simple ignorance and stupidity, his kind-hearted presence is always endearing to see.""I personally love the smart jerk and nice moron duo in stories - especially how caring and likable the dumber one always is."
- Deconstructed:
- Because Danny is so nice, other characters begin to exploit his kindness and since he's too stupid to realize it, they're able to keep on using him for their selfish motives.
- Just because Danny is nice doesn't stop others from berating and abusing him for his stupidity. The treatment he receives from them begins to make him snap.
- Danny the Dummy is the series' ditz, but he's just way too nice to realize that he's flawed logically to redeem his acts of idiocy.
- While Danny means well, he lacks the observational skills to make sure that his actions don't harm others. He tries to comfort Frederick after his Trauma Conga Line, but just ends up being Innocently Insensitive.
- Reconstructed:
- But just because Danny is dumb, that doesn't mean he's dumb enough to let this go on forever. Before long he realizes what's happening, and the people taking advantage of him find out the hard way what happens when you abuse people's kindness.
- Danny finally snaps and leaves the group. The others are called out for their harshness towards Danny and realize that they were too hard on him.
- When he sees that Frederick isn't taking the comment well, he backtracks and says something that is able to cheer him up. Danny takes steps to make sure that his comments don't hurt other people by accident, though he may sometimes slip up.
- Played For Laughs: Danny the Dummy is portrayed as a lovable idiot, who is hilariously boisterous plus charmingly silly to a comedic degree, and has a giant heart to match.
- Played For Drama: When Danny was younger, he was treated unfairly by many shallow and heartless jerks because of his intelligence, and being treated this way growing up made him want to be a better person than them. However, in the process he became an Extreme Doormat who continues to be walked all over.
- Implied: Frederick mentions to Benny that he should be careful to be smarter than "the last guy" - he doesn't take kindly to stupid sweethearts unwittingly foiling his villainous plans while trying to help.
Hey buddy! Here's the.. uhh... Kind-harted-Simp-le-ton HERE. I still don't get what that means.
