Basic Trope: A flamboyant male character who hates women. Might be sexually interested in people of the same sex. Might be a villain.

  • Straight: Bob is a flamboyant, effeminate male who hates Alice for being female.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is a flamboyant Creepy Crossdresser and he may act no different from a Drag Queen, has an androgynous look and has an outrageously sick hatred and disgust for the entire female gender; he'd rather fawn and gush over males while making females suffer in the worst way possible.
  • Downplayed: Bob has some degrees of In Touch with His Feminine Side, and while he bears no ill will towards women, he has no interest in them.
  • Justified:
    • Bob was sick of being a stereotypical Gay Best Friend to females who saw him more as a fashion encyclopedia than a real human being.
    • Bob had many bad experiences with women for being effeminate, so he came to despise them for this.
  • Inverted:
  • Gender-Inverted: Alice is a Butch Lesbian who Does Not Like Men.
  • Subverted: Bob may look like a flamboyant misogynistic at first when we see him interacting with Alice, he says it's only Alice who he hates, not the entire female population.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out he said that to get out of trouble. He really does hate all women.
  • Parodied: Bob is more flamboyant than all the old Disney villains combined, and sings a Villain Song about how much he despises women and wants to exterminate them all.
  • Averted:
  • Enforced: "We know that effeminate men are bad, so we make him hate our heroine to show that he is profoundly evil."
  • Lampshaded: "So he hates women yet acts like one of them... Don't you notice something is off with this?"
  • Invoked: Bob, a gay man, is fearful of being the stereotypical Gay Best Friend, so he acts like that to scare women off.
  • Defied: "Just because I have a social disadvantage doesn't mean I feel jealous of other women. Men can do everything that they want!"
  • Discussed: "So let me get this straight, Bob... You hate women yet you act like one? Don't you realize how hypocritical this looks to the rest of us?"
  • Conversed: "I hate when they put those misogynistic effeminate characters. If I am effeminate it's because I like some aspects of androgyny."
  • Implied: Bob's room looks like the stereotypical room of a queen, except for a Dartboard of Hate filled with women's pictures in his room's wall, and these have more holes than Swiss cheese.
  • Deconstructed:
    • People, even his love interest Charlie, start calling Bob out on his hypocritical displays of misogyny, and he ends up alone because no one wants a misogynistic Control Freak, no matter how he looks.
    • Bob's fashion gradually gets more and more feminine until he's practically cross-dressing 24/7, all the while bragging about how he hates women to the death and still fully identifies as male. Just don't ask him if he's sure.
  • Reconstructed: But then Ryder, a malicious villain, comes up and proceeds to offer Bob affection, a chance for revenge against the women who kept them both down, and the opportunity to rule the world alongside him as his "queen". This offer seduces Bob into turning on his former friends.
  • Played for Drama: Bob's hatred of women, his feminine mannerisms, and attraction for men might be hints that she is actually a straight transgender woman living in denial of her true gender, whose misogyny comes from jealousy.
