Basic Trope: Clothes are added onto naked or semi-naked characters in post-production for censorship purposes.
- Straight: When the Hot Springs Episode airs in the United States, a bikini is digitally added to hide Ryoko's nudity.
- Exaggerated: When it airs in Saudi Arabia, a burka is digitally added.
- Downplayed: Censor Steam is digitally added, making it so Ryoko's body is hidden, but she's still naked in-universe.
- Justified: The episode is crucial to the series and the Moral Guardians would not allow it to air with nudity.
- Inverted: Ryoko was wearing a bikini in the original episode, but it's digitally removed when the show airs in France.
- Subverted: Fans are worried when they see Ryoko wearing a bikini in promotional material, but then they hear that her nudity will be uncensored in the episode itself.
- Double Subverted: The Moral Guardians get wind of this and object, resulting in the episode being censored after all.
- Parodied:
- Ryoko's nudity is censored by digitally putting her in an over-the-top silly costume that would make no sense for a trip to the hot springs.
- Ryoko's nudity is "censored" by a stripperiffic thing or a string bikini.
- Ryoko's nudity is 'censored' by a skin-tone colored swimsuit.
- Ryoko finds she cannot afford a swimsuit so she figures she'll just go naked and they'll CGI it in for her anyway.
- Zig-Zagged: Sometimes nudity is censored and sometimes it's not. Typically, it's censored when it's the female characters who are nude.
- Averted: Ryoko's nudity is left uncensored.
- Enforced:
- The Moral Guardians told the Meddling Executives to Think of the Children!
- The webcomic usually doesn't shy away from bare skin, but the artist also draws a censored version of each panel that depicts nudity, just in case. This way they can let readers choose which version to read and have a censored version available for countries/markets with stricter laws.
- The plot and/or dialogue is intentionally made to only work with the uncensored version, to see if the censors actually care about the work. For example, in the original version Alice - a seemingly Shameless Fanservice Girl bikini model who loves her job and happily poses for the camera in swimwear - is later shown to have her limits and be ashamed over old nude pictures of herself. The censors add bikinis to the nude photos, so now Alice is for some reason upset over bikini-clad pictures of herself despite having been more than happy to provide them in an earlier scene, and the hints of her having a complicated relationship with nudity are completely removed.
- Lampshaded:
- "When this episode airs in America, we'll all be wearing bikinis."
- (In the American version) "Yep. I knew we'd be wearing bikinis."
- Invoked: While having a Naked Freak-Out, Ryoko implores her creator to Think of the Censors!. The next second, a digital bikini appears on her body.
- Exploited: They censor the nudity for TV, knowing that they can release an Unrated Edition on DVD later.
- Defied: Ryoko tries to make her nudity integral to the plot so that it will be harder to censor later on.
- Discussed: Two naked characters speculate on what they will be wearing when this episode airs in America.
- Conversed: While watching this episode, Bob and Alice discuss whether the censorship was really necessary.
- Implied: Ryoko went into the hot springs apparently naked, but she comes out wearing a bikini that she's never been seen wearing before.
