Basic Trope: Lies that are obvious.
- Straight: Bob says that cats are reptiles.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob says that 2 + 2 is 10,000,000.
- Bob says that elephants are too small to be seen by the naked eye.
- Bob's lies are not possible by any train of logic.
- Downplayed: Bob's lies make sense when you know the setup.
- Justified: Bob is a Bad Liar.
- Inverted:
- Bob is telling the truth, but it's so bizarre that it sounds like lies.
- Bob always tells the truth, even when inappropriate.
- Bob tries to lie, but accidentally tells the truth.
- Bob might be lying, but there's no way to know for sure.
- Subverted: Bob tells something that sounds like blatant lies. It is actually true.
- Double Subverted: ...that was mere chance. It was actually a lie at first.
- Parodied:
- Everything Bob says is a blatant lie.
- Bob tells a lie which should be obvious to the audience. Everybody else believes him.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob's lies vary in credibility.
- Averted: Bob doesn't lie.
- Enforced: "We need to show that Bob is untrustworthy, but not through actions!"
- Lampshaded:
- "Are you SURE you're telling the truth?"
- "Some liar I am."
- Invoked: Bob makes up a very bizarre lie.
- Exploited:
- Alice uses one of Bob's lies to expose his untrustworthiness.
- Bob has vitally important information that he can't reveal directly, for one reason or another. Instead, he uses lies to exploit Loophole Abuse, telling such an outrageous whopper that Alice realizes that the opposite must be true.
- Defied: Bob considers telling a blatant lie, but he chooses not to.
- Discussed: "You sound like you're VERY trustworthy, Bob."
- Conversed: "Why is each and every lie by Bob so obvious?"
- Deconstructed: People stop believing Bob, leading to a lot of Cassandra Truths.
- Reconstructed: After a series of Cassandra Truths, people slowly start regaining their trust in Bob, albeit grudgingly.
