Film:

  • Late in the film, a traumatized Wendy traverses the hotel's corridors and finds two ghosts having sex, one of which is wearing a dog costume. The soundtrack suddenly gets more intense, and the camera dramatically zooms in on the couple as they eerily glare at her, but the scene as a whole is so bizarre it comes across as funny.
  • The smash cuts with scare chords that tell the date. At first it may be a good Jump Scare, but it quickly loses its effect. It only gets more unintentionally funny when you consider the implications that the dates themselves are somehow supposed to be scary.
James Rolfe: Oh no! Not Tuesday!
  • The sight of Jack, covered in snow, with eyes rolled and teeth exposed, is intended to be one last scare. However, he looks less stone-cold dead and more like he's rolling his eyes and sighing over having to wait for a late bus in the cold.

Miniseries:

  • The hose with sharp teeth snapping at the camera. It's as silly as it sounds. The poor CGI just makes it even more goofy.
  • The topiaries standing still while making animal sounds. It would be a lot scarier if they were alive and moving. By having them stand still and not actually do anything, the scene comes off more as goofy Nightmare Retardant than anything as it appears that Jack is freaking out about nothing. Oh, and when they do start moving? They're depicted in utterly horrendous CGI that makes the whole thing look even funnier.
  • The ghosts attacking Wendy...with streamers. Streamers. They make Streamers fall on her body and laugh mockingly at her while she yells at them to stop. Somehow this is supposed to be scary.
  • The scene with the man in the goofy werewolf mask. He's supposed to be frightening, but the mask just makes him look silly. It does not help that the man's name turns out to be "Rover", which is the kind of name you'd expect someone to give to their pet beagle.
