Rambo 2 might be an influence

Ludwig von 88 is a French Punk Rock group that was mostly active in the 1980s and the 1990s, their last album being from 2001.

Most of their songs are satirical, but they can deal with very dark topics such as war, poverty or drugs.

While they are generally considered punk rock, a large number of their songs belong to a different genre, such as reggae, ska, or generic chanson.

The Ludwig von 88 are tropable!

  • Black Comedy: They do much of that, being a satirical group. The most obvious example is that they made several jokes about Ayrton Senna's death.
  • Concept Album: Several albums have a distinct theme or concept. Sprint is about sports, Hiroshima is a Rock Opera about the titular nuclear bombing, 17 plombs pour péter les tubes is only made of weird covers and Prophètes et Nains de jardin is about celebrities.
  • Crapsack World: Many songs are about this. L.S.D. for Ethiopie is sarcasm about humanitarian aid (Don't feed monkeys with peanuts, send these to Ethiopia). In Oh Lord it is mentioned that starved children in Latin America are being eaten by rats.
  • Gratuitous English: In Oh Lord,a song about religion, they address God as Lord, even though the rest of the song is in French.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized: La révolution n'est pas un dîner de gala is a quote from Mao Zedong specifically about this. The titular song mocks sterotypical communist propaganda about happy Chinese workers.
  • Tonto Talk: In the song Mon coeur s'envole the (native American) narrator is only speaking this way.
