  • Added Alliterative Appeal: "100 Years Ago"
Went out walkin' through the wood the other day
And the world was a carpet laid before me
The buds were bursting and the air smelled sweet and strange
  • Alliterative Title: "Dancing With Mr. D", "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)", "Star Star".
  • Anti-Police Song: "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)"
The police in New York City
Chased a boy right through the park
In a case of mistaken identity
They put a bullet through his heart
  • Bowdlerize: "Star Star" was originally titled "Starfucker", until record producer Ahmet Ertegün insisted on changing it.
  • Broken Record: "Star Star"
Yeah, you're a star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star
  • Cluster F-Bomb: "Star Star" was originally called "Starfucker", but had the title changed after Atlantic Records boss Ahmet Ertegün managed to get them to do so. He couldn't make them remove the profanity though.
Yeah, you're a star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star
  • Death Song: "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" depicts a boy in New York city being shot by the police in a case of mistaken identity and a ten year old girl dying from a heroin overdose.
  • Double Entendre: "Coming Down Again"
Slipped my tongue in someone else's pie
    Tasting better ev'ry time
She turned green and tried to make me cry
Being hungry it ain't no crime
  • Drugs Are Bad:
    • "Angie", in the knowledge the song is about heroin
But Angie, Angie, ain't it time we said goodbye?
With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats
    • "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)".
A ten year old girl on a street corner
    Sticking needles in her arm
She died in the dirt of an alleyway
Her mother said she had no chance, no chance!
  • Face on the Cover: Mick's face, wrapped in cloth.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)"
A ten year old girl on a street corner
    Sticking needles in her arm
She died in the dirt of an alleyway
Her mother said she had no chance, no chance!
  • Heavy Meta: "Can You Hear The Music?"
When I hear the drummer, get me in the groove
When I hear the guitar, makes me wanna move
  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold: "Silver Train"
And I did not know her name
But I sure love the way that she laughed and took my money

Honey, I missed your two tongue kisses
    Legs wrapped around me tight
If I ever get back to Fun City, girl
I'm gonna make you scream all night
  • Misogyny Song: "Star Star".
Yeah, I heard about your Polaroid's
Now that's what I call obscene
Your tricks with fruit was kind a cute
I bet you keep your pussy clean
Honey, I missed your two tongue kisses
    Legs wrapped around me tight
If I ever get back to New York, girl
Gonna make you scream all night
Yeah! You're a star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star
Yeah, a star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star
A star fucker, star fucker, star fucker, star fucker star
  • Nightmare Face:
    • Jagger on the album cover, his head caught in a veil, is not something claustrophobic people would like to endure.
    • "Dancing With Mr. D."
One night I was dancin' with a lady in black
Wearin' black silk gloves and a black silk hat
She looked at me longin' with black velvet eyes
She gazed at me strange all cunning and wise
Then I saw the flesh just fall off her bones
The eyes in her skull was burning like coals
  • One-Woman Song: Averted with "Angie". According to Keith Richards, the name "Angie" was a pseudonym for heroin, and wasn't about anyone.

Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna but I can't afford you
  • The Power of Rock: "Can You Hear The Music?"
When you hear the music trouble disappear

For givin' head to Steve McQueen
(...) Yeah, I'm makin' bets that you gonna get
(Your man) before he dies (John Wayne)
  • Special Guest: Billy Preston plays clavinet on "100 Years Ago" and piano on "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)".
