"I had no idea that one day, I'd be in this kind of relationship with a junior from work."
Haruki Shiina, opening narration

Mr. Right Turned Out To Be A Younger Woman!? (alternatively known as The Marriage Partner of My Dreams Turned Out To Be… My Female Junior at Work?! ) is a Yuri Genre manga by Miura Koizumi.

Haruki Shiina is a 33-year-old career woman who is desperate to settle down and get married before it is too late. One night, she goes out drinking with a male coworker named Okada, gets drunk and wakes up in a hotel room with no memory of the previous night. She assumes that Okada took her home, but it was actually Risa Takagai, a cold but talented 23-year-old employee.

The series is six chapters long, and can be purchased digitally on Renta!.

Mr. Right Turned Out to Be a Younger Troper!?

  • Above the Influence: Takagai resists the temptation to make a move on the drunken Shiina. In fact, when she and Shiina go on a business trip, Takagai proposes sleeping in separate rooms.
  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Takagai's mother had her at age 22. As a result, Shiina is shocked at how close she is to Takagai's mother's age.
  • The Ace: Takagai is a promising newcomer to the company who won a new employee award. Her talent for her job makes Shiina feel even more insecure.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Shiina is 33 and Takagai is 23. Shiina's shocked to learn that Takagai's mother is 45, meaning that Shiina is a mere 12 years younger than her girlfriend's mother. The difference between their ages is one part of the reason why Shiina is more desperate to get married than Takagai is, along with the fact that Takagai, who's always known herself to be a lesbian, knows same-sex couples can't get married in Japan.
  • Amicable Exes:
    • In Chapter 4, Shiina and Takagai encounter a woman who's friendly with Takagai, and cheerfully introduces herself as Takagai's ex.
    • Shiina and her ex-boyfriend Ryoji. While the two parted on bad terms due to Shiina's desperation to be married, they have a more amicable reunion in the final chapter, partly because Shiina has Takagai now.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The final chapter shows a wedding, and one might assume that it's for Risa and Haruki. It's actually for one of their coworkers, and goes to show that Haruki is gradually coming to terms with having to wait until same-sex marriage is legalized.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Shiina and Takagai get together as a couple, despite knowing that Japan not only does not allow same-sex marriages but discriminates against same-sex couples. They watch some of their coworkers, many of whom are significantly younger than Shiina, get married, but their catching the Bouquet Toss implies their turn might come soon.
  • Bouquet Toss: The final scene of the manga takes place at one of Shiina's coworkers' weddings, in which the bouquet is tossed. Shiina and Takagai catch it.
  • Brutal Honesty: Takagai never minces words, whether criticizing Shiina for her bad habits or calling out the other employees on how they're making Shiina uncomfortable.
  • Cliffhanger: Chapter 4 ends with Shiina on top of Takagai, asking Takagai to sleep with her, as had been shown at the start of the series, with Takagai begging Shiina to stop.
  • Cross-Popping Veins: Shiina gets them in the first chapter when Takagai snarks about her work.
  • Differing Priorities Breakup: Shiina's desperation to get married causes friction between her and her partners when the latter isn't as desperate. It's implied that this is the cause of her and Ryoji breaking up and it also causes a rift between her and Takagai in Chapter 5.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Shiina is known as an "old man" around the office, because of her tomboyish personality. Takagai calls some of her coworkers out after they call her that at a meeting.
  • Fatal Flaw: Shiina's fatal flaws are her impetuousness and her desperation to get married. which are intertwined. This apparently caused her to break up with her old boyfriend, and when she tries to progress her relationship with Takagai too quickly, she ends up causing a rift between them.
  • First-Name Basis:
    • In the Renta! translation of the manga, Shiina and Takagai call each other by their first names.
    • Takagai and her ex-girlfriend Miki use first names even in the Japanese version, as do Haruki and her ex-boyfriend Ryoji.
  • Gayngst: Shiina tries to deny her feelings for Takagai because same-sex couples can't get married in Japan, and thus a fling with a female coworker won't accomplish her goals.
  • In Medias Res: The first chapter begins with a flash-forward to the end of Chapter 4 when Shiina asks Takagai to have sex with her.
  • Last-Name Basis:
    • In the original Japanese and knight heron's translation, Takagai and Shiina refer to each other by their surnames; Takagai uses "senpai" on Shiina, while Shiina uses yobisute on Takagai. They switch to first names in the final chapter; Takagai calls Shiina "Haruki-san," while Shiina calls Takagai "Risa."
    • Okada, a coworker of Shiina and Takagai who's closer to the former's age, is only known by his surname.
  • My Biological Clock Is Ticking: One reason Shiina is in a rush to get married is that she's running out of time to have children.
  • No Periods, Period: Averted when Shiina has an early period just before a meeting in Chapter 2. Because she isn't feeling well, she takes her colleagues' teasing a bit harder than usual until Takagai calls them out on it.
  • Office Romance: Shiina and Takagai met while working at the same company and Shiina previously dated at least one coworker.
  • Old Maid: Shiina is rather sensitive about being 33 years old and single, and believes that at her age, her next relationship must be "the one."
  • Second Love: Both of the main characters have been in at least one relationship prior to the start of the story.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Takagai is usually well-dressed, but Shiina's impressed when Takagai wears a skirt to her date(as opposed to trousers around the office and a pantsuit while visiting the sake brewery) and has her hair done differently.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Takagai has a reputation as an Ice Queen at the office, and can be rather critical of Shiina, but holds her work in high regard and doesn't want to lose to her.
  • Time Skip:
    • Chapter 4 skips ahead a month from Shiina and Takagai's trip to the sake brewery to their first date.
    • The final scene is an unknown amount of time after the previous scene, since Shiina has recovered from the injuries she suffered in the accident.
  • Unmoving Plaid: Takagai sometimes wears trousers with a plaid pattern that follows this trope.
  • Weddings in Japan: The last scene of the manga is a Western-style wedding for one of Takagai and Shiina's coworkers.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: The last thing Shiina remembers is going home with Okada. She doesn't realize that Takagai took her home until the latter tells her.
