Mone-san no Majime Sugiru Tsukiaikata ("Mone-san's Overly Serious Way of Dating") is an ecchi romantic comedy manga written and illustrated by Misaki Goto, which was serialized in Shonen Jump+ from 2017 to 2019 and compiled into eight volumes.

The story follows the young couple of Haruta Nobuyasu and Yozakura Momone, better known as Mone, and her overly idealized or mistaken idea of dating.

The series has tropes of:

  • Accidental Pervert: More than once has Haruta found himself in a compromising position with one or more of the girls who are interested in him.
  • Afraid of Lightning: Tsubaki is terrified of lightning and reacts like a scared cat during a thunderstorm.
  • Aggressive Submissive: Rangiku might be The Gadfly, but she develops a fetish of being dominated by Haruta since all her life she has ruled over others.
  • Alliterative Name: Himawari Haruta and Yami Yukinoshita.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Sumire's skin tone it's clearly darker than the other characters, but there's no indicator if it's a tan or something else.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Haruta looks surprisingly good when Mone forces him to crossdress, and Mone herself looks like a very convincing pretty boy.
  • Beautiful Singing Voice: Daisy is so good at singing she could become a pro any time she wanted. Tsubaki happens to have a great singing voice despite her shyness. Sumire on the other hand is a Dreadful Musician.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: Mone wears classes and she's considered quite cute and beautiful.
  • Blind Without Them: Mone can't see very well without her glasses.
  • Boob-Based Gag: More than once have Mone's and Sumire's huge knockers been used for gags, usually involving Haruta.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Rangiku is incredibly capable as vice-president, but she prefers to do things that amuse her instead.
  • Book Dumb: Daisy is not a very good student.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Daisy Caroline appears to be only part Japanese, but she ironically is not very good at English.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Mone might be quite capable as student council president, but she's also prone to tripping and ending up in Suggestive Collisions.
  • Darkhorse Victory: Nobara really didn't want to be student council president and only postulated due to feeling peer pressured, and thanks to Nobuyasu she actually wins.
  • Denser and Wackier: The extra chapters have some pretty outlandish plots when compared to the main story, like the girls turning into kids or getting trapped inside a videogame.
  • Expressive Accessory: Nobara's hoodie has a pair of horns which move according to her mood.
  • Expressive Hair: Tsubaki's hair is shaped like cat ears and it goes up or down depending on her mood.
  • The Eeyore: Due to her lack of social skills, Nobara has a tendency of getting in a really gloomy mood while decrying "normies" and their happy lives.
  • Face of a Thug: Tsubaki might appear distant and even scary, but in fact she's just socially awkward and wishes she could express herself better.
  • Fanservice: It's an Ecchi series with fanservice from every trope, usually panty shots, male gazes, Fanservice Costumes and suggestive situations.
  • The Gadfly: Yuuhin loves teasing and riling up her friends and seeing their reactions.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Nobara is surprisingly skilled at making mini-drones she can control remotely.
  • Geek Physique: Nobara is so not used to doing exercise that running away from Sumire leaves her completely sore.
  • Gyaru Girl: One chapter involves Mone dressing up like a typical gyaru, blonde hair, contact lenses and all.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Tsubaki, Sumire, Rangiku and Nobara all develop crushes on Haruta, who's already dating Mone and is somewhat Oblivious to Love.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: In earlier colored chapters Rangiku was depicted with brown hair, before eventually it was settled with having pink hair.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Mone's hair reaches her butt and she's a girly and hopeless romantic, while Sumire's ponytail also reaches her legs and it fits her secretly girly interests.
  • Male Gaze: There's hardly one chapter without focusing on the ass or boobs of the girls, mostly Mone, who can't bend over without giving a Panty Shot or camel toe to the readers.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Mone, but also Tsubaki, Sumire and even Nobara are all prone to getting a Male Gaze or show up in a revealing outfit.
  • Only Knownby Their Nickname: Mone is usually referred to as just that, and very rarely as Momone.
  • The Peeping Tom: Nobara becomes this accidentally when she takes a picture of a shirtless Nobuyasu while he's changing in the dressing room.
  • Scary Teeth: Nobara's teeth are all sharp, although they represent her somewhat awkward and gloomy demeanor instead of making her look scary.
  • Second Year Protagonist: Haruta, Mone and the rest of their class (with the exception of Tsubaki, who's a first year) are all in their second year of high-school
  • Secret-Keeper: Nobara is the only one who knows Nobuyasu and Mone are a thing, although she promises she's not telling anyone.
  • Secret Relationship: Neither Mone nor Haruta are open to their classmates about being in a relationship. This unfortunately means Tsubaki and Sumire think he's available and develop feelings for him.
  • Sick Episode: Chapters 46 and 47 are all about Haruta taking care of a sick Mone.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Sumire stands at an impressive 174cm tall, even taller than Haruta, and she's considered quite hot.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Haruta's younger sister Himawari looks a lot like him, only female, and his younger cousin looks like a miniature version of him.
  • Student Council President: Mone is actually pretty competent as one, especially when compared to the carefree vice-president. Eventually Nobara takes her spot but names her Vice-President.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Most of Mone's ideas concerning dating come from things she reads about, without considering if they can be applied in real life.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Yami Yukinoshita is the shortest and flattest-looking of all the main characters.
  • Token Rich Student: Rangiku Yuuhin is so rich she arrived to school in a helicopter, while the rest of the students are clearly middle-class.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Sumire is a Passionate Sports Girl and has even been compared to a samurai, but she secretly loves romance novels and wishes she could be in a relationship.
