Gokusotsu Kraken (獄卒クラーケン), translated as Hell's Tormentor Kraken, is a Seinen manga written by Takahiro, author of Akame ga Kill!, Hinowa ga Crush!, and Chained Soldier.

Kuma Shimizu is a young man who finds himself in another world at the women's prison of the Queendom of Sebek. There, he's fatally injured, but instead of dying he's offered a second chance by a kraken to protect Zeina Sebek, the girl who once saved the creature. Now with the powers of the kraken, Kuma must ensure Zeina and the prisoners under his watch win enough colosseum battles to earn their freedom.

This work includes examples of:

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Karama the kraken wants Kuuma to protect Zeina because she helped Karama return to the sea when he was only a squidling that had been captured by poachers.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Panya doesn't have the strongest bladder control: she pees herself when Isis threatens to kill her, and it happens again when she finds herself at the mercy of three assassins.
  • Combat Tentacles: The most common application of Kuuma's powers.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: The Kousa brothers tell Kuuma that he should mentally prepare himself to kill his enemies in a life or death situation, since that's the mindset of the world. They also tell him the Queendom of Sebek allows polygamy, so he should do it with several females.
  • Frame-Up: Zeina was framed for the murder of her father, a prominent Master Swordsman known as The Paladin. Zeina is certain one of her cousins was behind it to get rid of her.
  • Fusion Dance: Kuuma fuses with Karama in order to save his life, even if the kraken knew doing so would be the end of his existence.
  • The Ghost: The 9th Gaol consists of six prisoners, but Kuuma has only met four of them since the last two are in solitary confinement.
  • Gilded Cage: Inmates have a surprising degree of freedom within the prison tower, with their cells becoming more luxurious the higher they're ranked.
  • Girls Behind Bars: The main setting is a women's prison in a fantasy world.
  • Gladiator Games: Inmates have to fight against each other or dangerous beasts in order to get their sentences reduced or to increase their rank.
  • Hotter and Sexier: Compared to Akame ga Kill! and even Chained Soldier, this manga depicts sex from the very first chapter.
  • How We Got Here: The opening page spreads of Chapter 1 show Kuuma already working as a prison guard of the Sea Bastille restraining female prisoners with his Kraken powers; the story then jumps back two weeks and follows him from the moment he was whisked from Earth and into the Queendom of Sebek.
  • Matriarchy: The Queendom of Sebek is matriarchal, with a dose of Elective Monarchy. Zeina is the niece of the current queen and was elegible for the throne before her imprisonment.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Male dwarves haven't been seen so far, but females simply look like short women with a higher level of physical resistance.
  • Porn with Plot: There are plenty of important battles with interludes of Kuuma having plenty of sex.
  • Promiscuity After Rape: Kuuma doesn't let his rape by a prisoner in the first chapter break him. Instead, he uses his newfound powers to please women while having sex.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The 9th Gaol is composed of a Fallen Princess, a Hot-Blooded Oni girl, an elven Mad Scientist and a Cute and Psycho demon girl.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Quite literally. The weaker or new inmates are C-Rank, the mid-tiers are B-Rank, stronger inmates are A-Rank, and the most powerful of them all are the S-Rank. As the head warden, Isis is implied to be just as strong as the most powerful inmates.
  • Sex for Services: At Panya's suggestion Kuuma decides to offer his services to prisoners in exchange for information or empowering them with his new body.
  • Starring Smurfette: Kuuma is the only male working at the prison who hasn't been neutered.
  • Trapped in Another World: Pan'ya tells Kuuma that he's the most recent "foreigner" to the Queendom of Sebek. Others have been in similar circumstances, and a way to send them home has yet to be found (assuming it's even possible).
  • Uncertain Doom: The last panel of Gamy is her screaming after Kuuma gave her a kraken-empowered karate chop to her head. It's unknown if she survived it, as she has yet to reappear.
  • Wardens Are Evil: Warden Isis is a beautiful and mysterious elven woman who happens to be utterly ruthless in dealing with those that oppose her.
  • World of Action Girls: The Sea Bastille and the Queendom of Sebek show there are plenty of women who can kick ass.
