After being hit by a truck, a modern day woman from Korea is reincarnated as a minor villainess, Carnelia Easter, the hero's wife, who is destined to be executed for her part in obstructing Caesar's future. In order to survive, Carnelia must use her wits to mediate between the villainess Empress Evgenia, her husband Caesar, the second prince, the original heroine and so much more. Initially seeking a divorce, Carenlia soon finds things to turn out more complicated than expected.

Originally a Web Serial Novel, it was later adapted to a webcomic that has been completed. The webcomic is localized by Tapas under the title "This Villainess Wants a Divorce!" which can be read here.

Tropes:

  • Amicable Exes: At least what the reincarnated Carnelia wants to be with Caesar to ensure her survival. Unfortunately, Carnelia didn't count the possibility that being a decent and nicer person to Caesar only made him fall in love with her instead.
  • Arranged Marriage: What occurs with Carnelia Easter and Caesar who marry quite young at twelve. Their marriage was a ploy by the Empress as Carnelia's family was a destitute Barony and Evgina wanted her own son to become Emperor and prevent Caesar from amassing a powerful marriage alliance. The original Carnelia lived quite lavishly until her execution. However, the reincarnated Carnelia managed to accomplish and get a Perfectly Arranged Marriage with Caesar due to their mutually growing love for each other thanks to her own efforts and awareness of the world around her.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: The initial attempt of Caesar's and Carnelia's coronation especially in the webtoon.
  • Babies Ever After: In the end, Carnelia and Caesar have two children together, a boy and a girl.
  • Brainless Beauty: The original story's Carnelia was quite beautiful but also foolish. She blindly obeyed Empress Evgenia's every order and went out of her way to antagonize Caesar every way possible until he bites back and takes his revenge.
  • Bullying a Dragon: A gradual example in the original story where the original Carnelia Easter obeyed the Empress's order to bully and antagonize Caesar at every opportunity. This backfired on her when Caesar later returned from war, took back the throne and put to guillotine.
  • The Chessmaster: Contrasting the original Carnelia Easter, the reincarnated Carnelia has very few physical abilities and is prone to sickness but she learns how to navigate the political scenes to the best of her ability and balance her position with both Caesar and Evgina in order to survive. Evgina is also this.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: In the new and diverged timeline, Caesar and the reincarnated Carnelia developed this relationship instead due to Carnelia being genuinely nice to Caesar and helped him from time to time, with Caesar falling in love with her first.
  • Crush Blush: Surprisingly it's not Carnelia who falls victim to this the most. It's Caesar.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: God save us from Empress Evgenia.
  • Heir Club for Men: An important plot point. Grace Lancaster, the original heroine, can't inherit her family position despite knowing she is more than capable of it and was the reason behind why she married Caesar in the original story. It takes several political maneuvers to subvert this and Grace still has to contend with her cousin for the title. Fortunately, she succeeds and becomes Duchess Lancaster through her own abilities.
  • Heroic BSoD: It takes over a year for Carnelia to adjust and even accept her reincarnation and its worse since she has no one she considers friends or family on her side as she was basically sold off by her family to get married. In earlier chapters, when suffering from a fever, she even wonders if dying will allow her to go home. And even after recovering, she is still somewhat dismayed and wants to go home.
  • Irony: Despite Carnelia thinking she needs to get out of way to ensure Caesar is able to marry Grace, the one he loves, it turns out that Grace, the original female lead, never loved Caesar and only married him for political reasons. In fact, it's Carnelia that actually grows to truly love Caesar back.
  • Point of Divergence: The reincarnated Carnelia choosing to be nice and secretly support Caesar ended up making Caesar fall in love with her instead. It took a while for Carnelia to accept and realize that she loved him as well.
  • "Reborn as Villainess" Story: Carnelia is originally an adult Korean woman who is reborn into the minor villainess.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Carnelia doesn't notice Caesar's budding romantic love for her until he outright confesses due to still being stuck in the mindframe of the original work until she realized that she already changed things without meaning to.
  • Unreliable Narrator: As Caesar was the original narrator in the story this was not immediately obvious. But significantly it is revealed the original female lead Grace Lancaster never loved him and only married him for political reasons and to advance her own career which women in their world lack the means to do so. In fact, Carnelia's presence allows for the chain of events that allow for Grace to become Duchesss Lancanster and therefore have no reason to marry Caesar.
