Fiona Green was meant to be the Final Boss that will lead the way for the protagonists to get their happy ending. When the author of the original tale, "The Emperor and the Saintess", reincarnates as the final boss of her own book, she sets out to make the changes she wished to make to give the world that she created a far better outcome.

I Became the Wife of the Male Lead is originally a webnovel written by Purik and Winterleaf that has now been completed, the novel can be found in Ridibooks and Kakao. A webcomic adaptation is released in Kakao, illustrated by Jeokbal. The webcomic is localized in English by Tapas Media under the title "Author My Own Destiny".

Warning: A good portion of the Tropes elaborated here contains spoilers from the completed Webnovel. You have been warned.

I Became the Wife of the Male Lead has the following tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Enoch constantly harasses at parties Livia due to his interest in her, despite the fact Livia can't stand him and it's only him being the crown prince that keeps her from doing more to deter him. When he tries to get engaged to Livia, she helps Fiona and Siegren ruin his reputation by nudging him into the illegal monster ring fighting so she can reject it without consequence.
  • Adopting the Abused: In both the original story and the current timeline, Abel adopts a child who went through a lot of abuse in their lives. In the original story, Abel adopts Siegren, but in the current story, Abel instead adopts Fiona.
  • All-Loving Hero: The reincarnated Fiona. However, this is less fueled by her own idealism, but from a sense of responsibility for the suffering that the characters she created had to go through. This only extends to the heroes and supporting characters than villains, with the lone exception of the original Fiona, whom she reincarnated as. This ends up being the thing that saved the original Fiona who had summoned the author in hopes of being loved by her creator and the side stories has the original Fiona reincarnated as Fiona and Siegren's child.
  • Bastard Bastard: Deconstructed Trope with the original Fiona, as her Trauma Conga Line is why she ends up becoming the Final Boss of the original story.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Arendt, the original second male lead of the original work. Fiona is wary when she met him because of her foreknowledge of the work she created because she recognized that he's far more manipulative than he seemed.
  • Childhood Friends: The reincarnated Fiona becomes one with Siegren, the original hero of the book she created, due to knowing the plot to be able to get Siegren into better circumstances far sooner than his original counterpart did.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Siegren crushed on Fiona for her kindness and tenacity. It takes a while for the reincarnated Fiona to reciprocate it due to Fiona still thinking of the world in the basis of the tale she created and how she wants to give the people of the world a better ending.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Enoch, on Livia's subtle nudging gets involved in the illegal monster fighting ring and even provides funding for the organizers to obtain an incredibly dangerous monster from the Dead Land. Fiona and Siegren bust the operation in order to stop a potential disaster from the monsters breaking loose and Enoch is exposed as being directly involved, resulting in a huge hit to his reputation while boosting Siegren's popularity, while also giving Livia a reason to reject his engagement.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • In the current timeline, due to Abel being able to see Fiona's potential in magic, Abel grew to see her for who she is and had decided to adopt her down the line. In the original story, the original Fiona considers Abel as an enemy due to him kicking her out over her age at the time she first arrived at the fortress, even if he was understandably offended by what her biological family did by sending an inexperienced child to what is essentially a warzone with the hopes she would not come back because she was illegitimate.
  • The Dreaded:
    • Duke Abel Helion is this to many because he's ruthless when it comes to dealing with enemies or people that displease him on top of his battle prowess.
    • Arendt is this for Reincarnated! Fiona as he was the original cause of Original! Fiona's fall to villainy and as such, interacts with him within arm's length.
  • Final Boss: The original Fiona Green is this in the original "The Emperor and the Saintess".
  • Heroic Bastard:
    • Siegren, both in the original "The Emperor and the Saintess" and the present. He is the illegitimate child of the king but in spite of it all, he remains a heroic individual.
    • The reincarnated Fiona is this on paper and in some ways as she just wants to live well and ensure a better outcome for everyone involved. Original! Fiona... not so much.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Original! Fiona, all she wanted was for someone to genuinely love her and she had been the one to be responsible for sending the soul of the reincarnated Fiona, the author, into the new world and hoped that she'd find that love in her creator, but when said creator ended up falling in love with Siegren, Original! Fiona becomes the Final Boss once more and only near the end, was Original! Fiona finally able to be in peace and got the love that she had wanted from her creator.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: The reincarnated Fiona's ultimate goal is to give her creations a far better ending and outcome to their tale than what she initially wrote.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Abel Heilon kicking a young Fiona out after being brought to his territory might be a jerk move in the original story, but seeing that her family chose to send Fiona, a child who didn't know her potential and talent with magic then, out to death, it reads as the Green family not taking the problem in solving the monster invasion seriously, and with the events being serious and dire enough, Fiona as she was then was a potential liability that Abel had no time to cater to. The reincarnated Fiona only averts being kicked out through the foreknowledge that she created the story herself and recognizing the original Fiona's talent.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The Green family get their just desserts of their treatment of Fiona when she later calls on the Royal family on them with Abel's assistance for the family's illegal drug dealings, all while removing herself from the family register to be a ward of the Helion dukedom to avoid getting punished with them. The reincarnated Fiona initially wanted to give them a benefit of doubt and leave the family behind for good after settling the inheritance dispute, but seeing that all of them were still content to mistreat Fiona, she decided that she can no longer deal with them and give them their just desserts for their mistreatment.
  • Must Make Amends: The Reincarnated Fiona's goal on making a happy ending for everyone is partly to make amends to her creations for having to go through a lot of suffering, this also includes the original Fiona, whom she reincarnated as. Seeing the world's setting and the horrors it brought in person enforced this feeling to her.
  • Nice Girl: Eunice, the original heroine of "The Emperor and the Saintess" is a gentle and kind person.
  • Parental Substitute: Abel Heilon is the closest to a good father figure that Siegren had, both in the original "The Emperor and the Saintess", and the present story. The present story also has him be a parental figure for the reincarnated Fiona.
  • Point of Divergence: In the original story, Livia was a love rival villainess for Eunice for her interest in Siegren. Here, because Fiona is now Duke Helion's heir, Livia becomes far more interested in Fiona than Siegren, especially after recognizing how much he adores Fiona and ends up Fiona's friend instead.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure:
    • Abel Heilon is efficient and stern, and has a no nonsense attitude regarding serious matters, which included the moment where he plan to send Fiona away due to being a child when she was sent to help subjugate the monsters until the reincarnated Fiona proved herself. He takes care of the people under his territory well and proved to be reasonable when given the chance and does not let anyone that harms the well-being of the civilians off lightly.
  • "Reborn as Villainess" Story: The protagonist reincarnates into Fiona Green, who is the Final Boss of the story instead of the regular villainess. However, the protagonist who reincarnated as Fiona is instead, the author of the original story instead of being a reader who followed the story from start to finish reincarnated into the body of a villain, and her goal is to make a better outcome for the world and the characters that she created.
  • Royal Brat: The crown prince Enoch is a tactless womanizing brat with an inflated ego and pride in his bloodline that Livia despises since he constantly harasses her at parties despite her making clear she doesn't want anything to do with him, with it being implied some of Livia's interest in Siegren in the original story comes from wanting an excuse to not be Enoch's fiance. He's also shown to not be the most tactful as he's easily duped by Livia into getting involved in the illegal monster fighting ring by her pandering to said ego as part of her plan to be able to reject his engagement offer without consequences.
  • Show Within a Show: The protagonist is reincarnated into the Final Boss of her own creation, a story named "The Emperor and the Saintess".
  • Straw Misogynist: Enoch shows many traits that fits this trope to a Tee.
  • Succession Crisis: When the current emperor was younger, he had any relatives that posed a threat to his rule killed or chased off, which included Abel's relatives and a reason why Abel hates the royal family. Fiona suspects Abel is still single despite his current age because any of Abel's potential biological children would have a right to the throne and he doesn't want to have that child live a life in fear of the royal family.
  • Teen Genius: The reincarnated Fiona is well known as a genius mage to the Heilon family and the territory the family rules over.
  • Trauma Conga Line: The original Fiona's life isn't exactly friendly, mistreated for being an illegitimate child, she was thrown to the sharks when the family send her off to Heilon territory but because she has yet to realize her potential in magic at the time, Abel Heilon kicked her out due to Fiona lacking the means to be able to contribute to the on-going war happening in the lines protecting the land. Fiona had to fend for herself and later had her potential awakened by Arendt, who actually was making use of her and never genuinely liked her and for all of this, she ends up becoming the Final Boss and host of the darkness, an entity plaguing the world.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: The reincarnated Fiona displays moments of childishness and also of maturity due to the advantage of having lived a life before and knowing the world she is reincarnated as. Abel points this out to her at one point and wonders which of the two masks she displays is actually the true Fiona.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: The original Fiona Green's backstory and Trauma Conga Line which is only implied in "The Emperor and the Saintess" made her the Final Boss of the original story. The original Fiona is also the Final Boss of the current timeline as well, but it's out of envy and anger that the author, whom she thought could give the original Fiona the love she never had, chose to love Siegren. The reincarnated Fiona, the reincarnated author herself eventually managed to reach out and make a promise to love the original Fiona.
