Doctor Player or Dr. Player is a korean webnovel by Yuin (유인) that debuted in 2019, and is currently being adapted in webcomic form by Copin Comics. Raymond is a healer whose healing power is pathetic, and is the illegitimate child of the noblest person. Viewed as worthless and a stain by all those around him, he lives at the bottom of the healer ladder. Until a miracle happens, a window appears: [You awakened as a player!] [Occupation: Surgeon] And he receives knowledge of modern medicine. With this miracle, is the beginning of his legend. Raymond seeks to become the best healer of the Laipentaina continent, save patients, and make bank.

- Because You Were Nice to Me: The Bay region is a poor, lawless area born out of war refugees that the King wants to stabilize, and promised a reward at any who would do so. The three princes, in an attempt to score points to become the next king, have all attempted and failed to do so, leaving the region in a worst state than before. Because of this, the inhabitants hate nobles and the royal bloodline. Enters Raymond, who gains the people's trust by curing the Syphilis in the Red Light District, cures the boss of the Blue Moon guild, kicks out the illegal healers, and saves a family from being burned to death for having what was believed to be smallpox (really chickenpox). Through his work and kindness, the slums uninamously adore Raymond, acknowledge him as the only prince (even though he's illegitimate), and protects him and his reputation whenever they can, always lending support when he needs it. Like when he confronts the Dark Guild, the entire slum became an angry mob swarming the guild's headquarters. Because of having this trust, Raymond is able to propose a plan to turn the Bay region into an commerce and entertainment district to King Oden, a solution that would both stabilize the region and bring more benefits to the kingdom.
- Bully Turned Buddy: Rao and Christine both came to Raymond with the expectations he was a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing, and were insolent enough to trigger Raymond's "How To Handle Assholes" skill. However, they eventually come around at seeing Raymond's effective and kind treatment of his patients, and quickly become his earnest followers.
- Determined Doctor: Probably Raymond's greatest trait as a healer. No matter who they are, and whether or not they can pay (even if he wished they could), if they are a patient, he will perform his duties as a healer and cure them. This includes putting himself in dangerous situations like checking on a family thought to have smallpox, and injecting epinephrine into knights in anaphylactic shock while a monster is on the loose.
- The Dog Bites Back: Illegal Healers have been extorting money out of the poor for years, as their only resort for decent healing. But when they start to lose money because of Raymond, they try to think of ways to get rid of him or force him to bump up his treatment fees. Lance attempts to bribe one of Raymond's ex-patient into spreading slandering rumors and rightfully gets hit in the face for it. The folks of the slums were already tired of him for his extortion, but his blatant attempt to sabotage of the one healer that treats them right was the last straw. They all circle him and beat him up so bad that even after healing himself with B-Rank healing, his body still hurts everywhere.
- Dr. Jerk: All the healers have this reputation, especially among commoners and the poor. The price for healing is enormous, and since healers are so precious, they act entitled and rude towards those of "lower standing". This is why Raymond is such a blessing to them.
- The Evil Prince: Contrasting illegitimate Raymond, the three other princes are all assholes that while have one strong suit, are more preocupied with their status and reputation among nobles to care for their actual subjects. In between the second prince who is described as a psychopath, the third prince who saw no problem with torching the Bay region and its inhabitants, and the fourth prince who is just completly moronic, no wonder King Oden is worried of what will become of the kingdom after his passing.
- First-Episode Twist: You learn very quickly that Raymond isn't the son of any noble, but the King, hence his nickname "Shadow Prince".
- Good Feels Good: Raymond may be greedy as heck and is after the spot of best healer for the comfort that'll bring him, but he truly enjoys seeing people get better and being thanked for his good deeds. And even if the patient doesn't have much money or may not be able to pay, he will still cure them, refusing to let anyone under his watch die.
- Greed: Raymond wants money. At the end of the day, it is his main motivation, but he won't hesitate to help others along the way, and he will not extort money out of those who clearly cannot afford it. He wants money for the fame and luxuries, which would make his life comfortable, having been denied that comfort in the past and having been forced to watch his mother die because she couldn't afford to be treated.
- Grew a Spine: The Heart of Steel skill has this purpose, overriding Raymond's meek personality when it activates. Even without it, Raymond is very different from how he used to be, which is lampshaded by the Royal Advisor, who is pleasantly shocked by his transformation.
- Healing Hands: Severely deconstructed. Healing power is fixed at birth (usually) and is classified into ranks by the Healing Tower. Heal can help people, as it boosts vitality, but only high level Heal can close wounds. Heal can provide relief in case of diseases, but will not cure it, making it just a short term solution. Despite those flaws, Heal is seen as the only legitimate way of curing people.
- Heroic Bastard: Raymond is the illegitimate son of King Oden, and has been dubbed "Shadow Prince" for it. Oden is seen as the perfect ruler, beloved, charismatic, intelligent... And so, his illegitimate child is the only stain on his perfect record as a ruler. Raymond has been ignored and despised by everyone around him for being the one flaw of their King. Despite his vice of greed, Raymond is still a person that likes to help others and will work hard to help any patient in his care. Even the Game System acknowledges this, with Raymond bearing the title "Dirty Illegitimate Child", reflecting how poorly he is thought of. It's only after the banquet of the National Foundation Festival in which he does an amazing impression on the nobles present that he gets rid of the negative title, now obtaining simply: "Illegitimate Son of the King".
- Hospital Hottie: Patients, from women to men, have complimented Raymond's good looks, and many have said they've rarely met a healer as kind and handsome he is.
- Informed Flaw: Subverted! Everyone tells Raymond that he's ugly and unsightly, but in truth, he's tall and handsome, and in the right clothes makes everyone swoon. He's aware of this, and he's not above weaponizing it to help his reputation.
- Karmic Jackpot: Multiple times, Raymond will cure or help folks that will pay him back in some way, without him specifically intending to (aside from wanting the usual treatment fee).
- A man shows up at the Belland clinic with a stab wound. The chief healer Lance, proceeds to scoff at a beggar showing up at their clinic, and tells others to send him to a clinic for commoners. Only a B-Rank healer or higher can heal a stab wound, and there is no way they would work at a clinic for the poor, so the man is basically sent to die. After being provoked by Lance, Raymond decides to step forward and performs surgery with the help of Hansen, and saves the man's life. Turns out, that man is Clearen August, son of Count August, who was going incognito to send a message to the third prince. Upon learning what happened from Hansen and Clearen, the Duke is understandably pissed off, and proceeds to take Lance away for trial, which ends with Lance losing his right to practice. Raymond, now free of his tormentor, enters the Count's good graces, granting him a strong ally.
- Non-Action Guy: Raymond recieved no training whatsoever, and so deliberatly avoids dangerous situations. And when push comes to shove, his reactions will usually be to run away or desperatly swing a weapon screaming with no idea of what he's doing. Turns out that since his swings are as fast and heavy as a trained knight's thanks to his stats, the latter option usually ends with his foe getting knocked on their ass.
- Only One Name: Commoners only have a single name, even Raymond. Until he becomes a Baronet that is. He decides to go by Raymond Penin, using the name of his late mother as his family name.
- Parental Neglect: Raymond has heard the voice of his father once. Then, Raymond was mistreated and abused while the King did nothing to stop it. Naturally, Raymond hates him for it. Oden believes that his personal feelings are unimportant as a king. Even when he wanted to to take care of his illegimate child, he knew the consequences it would have on his image, and so did nothing. Now that Raymond is contributing to the kingdom, he is paying more attention to him, so there may be hope for their relationship.
- Parents as People: King Oden is an amazing king, but not a good father. He's aware of this, and does not pretend otherwise. Having killed his own siblings for the throne, he became The Stoic and discarded his personal feelings, as they are a hindrance to his role as a ruler. The single time he let his feelings out, was to find and save a young Raymond, but after that: nothing. Raymond sees him as nothing but a stranger, but his recent deeds let Oden rediscover his now adult son, and he finds himself visiting Raymond's clinic incognito.
- Predatory Big Pharma: The price to be treated by high level healers is horrendous, usually leading the poor to die without a chance of recovery like Raymond's mother. The Healing Tower which oversees it all doesn't see any problem with it, and sees Raymond as an enemy for his affordable and effective treatments without using Heal, which puts their status quo into question.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: The entire royal family does... but the effectiveness of it depends. King Oden is talented and loved by his citizens, but the princes are all fighting on different fronts for the crown, more concerned for their rights to succession than their subjects. Meanwhile, Raymond is illegitimate, but is actively curing illnesses, healing patients, and bettering people's lives. This is noticed by Oden, whom starts paying attention to his actions and rewards him for his deeds towards the kingdom, even eventually giving him the title of Baronet. His advisor at one point even comments that if Raymond had been legitimate, he would have likely have been the top choice for the next heir.
- Shrinking Violet: Raymond, to his own admission, is meek and would rather stay out of trouble and drama. Taking into account how people treated him, this isn't a surprise. His Heart of Steel skill medigates this flaw of his upon activation.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Lampshaded by princess Sophia when Seytil attempts to save face by dancing with her. No woman in her right mind would want to dance with a violent drunkard like him, and would rather go for a soft, intelligent man like Raymond.
- So Beautiful, It's a Curse: During the Fondation Festival Banquet, the Game System warns Raymond that his amazing looks may attract unwanted attention, which might get him dragged into a duel. And it was right, Seytil provokes Raymond into a duel out of rage and jealousy.
- Succession Crisis: The princes are in a constant battle for fame and power to be chosen as the next king after the very first prince has passed away. Raymond wants nothing to do with it, and he has no right to it anyway, so he steers clear of the drama. But when he starts contributing more than the other princes ever did by helping patients and the suburbs and their father starting to pay increasingly more attention to his actions, his siblings starts worrying he may become a Hidden Backup Prince.
- Threat Backfire: Twice in a row courtesy of Seytil. When attempting to put Raymond on the spot by making him give a speech at the National Fondation banquet, Raymond gives an amazing speech about Noblesse Oblige that leaves the audience in awe. Seytil doubles down and provokes Raymond to a duel, which the latter accepts, knowing that even if he lost he would go down with dignity. Raymond's "Self-Defence" skill activates, and Seytil proceeds to go down in one hit, with a broken nose and a front teeth missing.
- Tragic AIDS Story: The inhabitants of Crescent Street in the suburbs are said to bear "God's Curse". Since it's an entertainment district, Raymond thinks it's a victim of this trope. Indeed, Syphilis is spreading like wildfire. He makes penicillin out of molded bread, and cures the inhabitants, earning the suburbians' trust.
- Trapped in Another World: Played with. The only thing transported to the fantasy world is the knowledge of modern medicine itself. Raymond himself is aware all he knows is from a world called "Earth", and its history with diseases is referenced multiple times.
- Unskilled, but Strong: For being a Non-Action Guy, turns out Raymond's swings are fast and hard hitting. Instantly knocking out an unguarded Toms and Seytil and killing a monster. Although this is probably thanks to his stats, this leads others to assume he's extremely talented.
- What You Are in the Dark: Despite being motivated to be a doctor for a desire for a better life, it is still clear when it comes down to it, Raymond will still choose to do everything in his power to save a patient, regardless if they can pay him or not.
- You're Not My Father: To Raymond, the King is a complete stranger, having only heard his voice ''once'' in all the time he has spent in the royal palace. The King does not act as his father either, knowing perfectly he doesn't have the right or time to.
