  • The Blind Side: "Big Mike" for the main character, Michael.
  • The 2013 Carrie remake has Christine Hargensen call Tina Blake "Teenie".
  • In Casino Royale (1954)note , Leiter knows Bond by the nickname "Card Sense" Jimmy Bond.
  • Logan in Day of the Dead (1985) is usually called Frankenstein by the other characters because his job pretty much consists of hacking apart zombies all day.
  • The Death of Stalin: The members of the Central Committee call Nikita Khrushchev "Nicky", used with varying degrees of affection.
  • Devotion references the real-world nicknames the F4U Corsair earned due to its tendency to accidentally kill inexperienced pilots: "Widowmaker" and "Ensign Eliminator".
  • Doctor... Series:
  • The Fly (1986):
    • Veronica is usually referred to as "Ronnie" by both her editor/ex-lover Stathis and her Second Love Seth — and Seth only starts using it after she has upgraded their relationship from professional to personal. That this nickname is masculine and her apparent preference speaks to her strength and agency in both relationships.
    • Seth calls himself "Brundlefly" upon realizing he is undergoing a Slow Transformation into a new lifeform. This leaves Stathis as the only member of the Love Triangle who doesn't have a nickname, and makes for yet another similarity between Seth and Veronica (on top of their being Lookalike Lovers who possess similar passions for their respective lines of work).
  • In Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and its sequels, Kumar calls Harold "Roldie".
  • The Hunger Games: Prim's full name is Primrose, but everyone calls her Prim.
  • Iron Man 2:
    • The term "Hammeroids" is used by Tony Stark to refer to Justin Hammer's drones.
    • Hammer claims the 7.62mm 6-barrel minigun that ends up integrated with the War Machine suit is known to the US soldiers who use them as, alternately, Uncle Gazpacho or "Puff the Magic Dragon". (He was half-right here: The AC-47 gunship, a Vietnam-era ground-support aircraft fitted with several such miniguns for More Dakka, was nicknamed "Puff the Magic Dragon" for the hail of tracer rounds it rained down on the enemy.) He also nicknames his not-so-super mini-bunker-buster, supposedly capable of "reducing the population of any standing structure to 0" (although it's actually a laughable dud) the "Ex-Wife".
  • James Bond:
    • The World Is Not Enough: Bond nicknames Q's assistant (John Cleese) "R" without that Code Name being made as formal as "Q".
    • Spectre: Max Denbigh, the head of the Joint Intelligence Service, is nicknamed "C".
    • No Time to Die: Bond nicknames the one-eyed henchman Primo "Cyclops". Note that he's only ever called "Primo" in the credits and on sites like imdb.
  • Kingsman: The Secret Service:
    • Gary Unwin goes by "Eggsy".
    • Roxanne Morton prefers "Roxy".
  • The Killer That Stalked New York, a 1950 film Very Loosely Based on the 1947 New York City smallpox outbreak, has "Brainy Danny", a bellhop with a knack for spotting opportunities to make a quick buck.
  • King Of The Rocket Men. When a Jet Pack-wearing Jeff King is photographed saving the city from a Misguided Missile, he's dubbed The Rocket Man by the press and public. This became a Fan Nickname for other Republic Pictures rocketeer heroes even though they were different characters. In the case of Commando Cody, "Commando" is a reference to his service in the Commandoes during World War 2, though it's ambiguous as to whether it's a nickname or a Code Name.
  • In The Knowledge, the Deadpan Snarker examiner Mr Burgess is known as "the vampire". Another character is known as "Titanic"; his real first name is not revealed.
  • The Little Rascals series: Just about every boy had a nickname. Some became so identified with their characters that their nicknames followed them in life; i.e., Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer, George "Spanky" McFarlane, etc.
  • Monty Python's Life of Brian has a subversion. Everyone thinks "Mr. Big Nose" is the man's nickname... but it's actually his real name.
  • Nutcracker Massacre: Most people call Melissa "Mousey".
  • Only Stwpd Cowz Txt N Drive: The "Cowz" in the title refers to the main protagonist Cassie, who is nicknamed "Cow" by her friends for her surname (Cowan).
  • In Pixels:
    • Sam calls Bill "Boss" or "Chewie".
    • As the Cool Cars' names are unpronounceable strings of letters and numbers, the heroes dub them Ghosts.
    • The media nickname Sam, Eddie and Ludlow as the "Arcaders".
  • In The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dr. Frank N Furter is called "Frankie" by various characters throughout the film.
  • The Scribbler takes place at Juniper Towers, a run-down high-rise complex that serves as a halfway house for recovering mental patients. Unfortunately, the complex is so plagued by patients apparently leaping to their deaths that it becomes known as "Jumper Towers," to the extent that someone spray-painted the nickname onto the complex's front-yard sign.
  • In The Shining, Dick Hallorann calls Danny Torrance "Doc", briefly confusing Danny's mother:
Wendy Torrance: We call him Doc sometimes, you know, like in the Bugs Bunny cartoons. But how did you know that?
Dick Hallorann: ...Well, I guess I probably heard you call him that.
Wendy Torrance: ...Well, it's possible, but I honestly don't remember calling him that since we've been with you.
  • Star Wars:
    • In the movies and the expanded universe, droids often get called by a nickname based on their number and initials said as one word. Por Ejemplo: R2-D2 and C3P0 are called "Artoo" and "Threepio" respectively.
    • Han Solo in particular has a habit of assigning nicknames (though admittedly not particularly clever ones). He frequently refers to his companions in the first movie as "Kid" (Luke), "Princess" (Leia) — or "Your Worship" or even "Your Worshipfulness", and "Goldenrod" (C3-P0, in The Empire Strikes Back). Even as far forward as The Force Awakens he wastes no time dubbing Finn "Big Deal" after the guy tries to bluff himself as "kind of a big deal in The Resistance".
    • And it turns out Anakin 'Darth Vader' Skywalker was called 'Ani' by his girlfriend, which kinda detracts from his scariness...
    • In the deleted scenes of A New Hope, Luke's friends over at Tosche Station called him "Wormie".
  • Duncan in The Way, Way Back becomes known as "Pop 'n Lock" by the staff and patrons of Water Wizz, to the point that his "employee of the month" photo uses that monicker to identify him.
  • Weekend at Bernie's: Richard and Larry call each other "Rich/Richie" and "Lar". Though in the latter's case, his name is already a nickname so it's an in-series nickname of an in-series nickname.
  • In You Might Be the Killer, everyone refers to counselor Steve as "Steve the Kayak King". This is despite Steve's protests that he teaches canoeing, not kayaking.
